DescriptionThe whole story▼

Before a young rider takes a GasGas EC 125 into the woods, a good coach will have them ride figure eights in a field until they are bored. The exercise looks simple: two circles, tight turns, feet on the pegs, speed barely above walking pace. It is really a lesson in the clutch, because at that speed the small two-stroke only runs smoothly when the left hand is slipping it all the time. For the EC 125 from 2003 to 2015 Accossato offers the C7283, a folding clutch lever cut from Ergal 7075 with a long, four-finger blade.

Key Features

  • Folding clutch lever for the GasGas EC 125, 2003 to 2015
  • Mounts at the original clutch control, replacing the stock lever
  • Long blade laid out for four fingers
  • Blade folds forward in a fall on Accossato's anti-break joint
  • Machined from solid Ergal 7075, made in Italy
  • Blade in black, blue, orange or red with a dark base
  • One lever supplied
  • No German ABE documented; for off-road riding

Construction and Material Quality

In slow drills most riders work the clutch with one or two fingers, yet Accossato draws the C7283 long enough for all four. The extra length gives room for the whole hand whenever a stronger pull is needed. The lever is made in Italy, machined on CNC equipment from solid Ergal 7075, an aluminium alloy of high strength, and it is meant to be strong, light and reliable. It comes in two parts, a dark base fixed at the clutch pivot and a coloured blade that folds on a joint.

Figure Eights at Walking Pace

Slow-riding drills are how enduro riders learn balance. Round a pair of markers in a figure eight, the bike leans one way and then the other, with the bars at full lock and the rider's weight on the outside peg. The throttle stays steady and the clutch does the fine work, adding a little drive when the bike threatens to fall into the turn and taking it away when it runs wide. On a 125 two-stroke the balance between revs and clutch is particularly delicate, because the engine has so little pull at the bottom.

Figure eights are also a reliable way to drop a bike. At full lock the EC 125 falls quickly if the rider hesitates, and it goes down towards the inside of the turn, which on a left-hand circle means the clutch side. After twenty such tip-overs a solid lever may be bent into a new shape. With the C7283 the blade is meant to fold away on its joint instead, so the drill can carry on. It will not survive every impact, but it suits a way of practising in which falling is part of the plan.

Fitment and Compatibility

On the GasGas EC 125 of 2003 to 2015, the C7283 replaces the original lever at the stock clutch mount. Its counterpart on the front brake is the B8206 folding lever, listed for the same years. The two share black, blue and red as blade colours; orange is offered only on the clutch lever and gold only on the brake lever.

Road Approval

A German ABE is not available for the C7283. Registered EC 125s are common, but the lever is meant for off-road practice and competition, not for public roads.

Scope of Delivery
