DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Shiver 900 replaced the 750 for 2017 with a larger V-twin and updated electronics, and like its predecessor it is a naked bike that people ride right through the summer. Summer roads bring their own hazards: the black strips of bitumen that seal cracks in the tarmac turn soft and slippery in the heat, and they tend to run exactly where you brake for a bend. The Accossato EDF023 is a CNC-machined aluminium brake lever for the Shiver 900 of 2017 to 2020, with adjustable reach and three lengths.
Key Features
- Front brake lever for the Aprilia Shiver 900, 2017 to 2020
- Also listed for a Shiver 900 NAVI version of 2019
- Mounts on the original master cylinder
- Adjustable distance from blade to grip
- Standard blade about 138 mm in all seven colours
- Short and long blades in selected colours
- CNC-machined aluminium, anodised, black hub, no folding joint
- No German ABE documented; for track use
Construction and Material Quality
The EDF023 is milled out of solid aluminium on CNC machines and anodised afterwards. Its hub, where the pivot and the reach adjuster are located, is black on every version; its blade is finished in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green. Anodising colours the metal itself and leaves no paint layer that could flake. There is no hinge between hub and tip, so the lever gives a direct, unchanging feel for the pressure you apply.
Tar Snakes on a Hot Afternoon
Road crews seal cracks with strips of bitumen, and on a hot day those strips turn soft and greasy. A tyre that crosses them while leaned over or under hard braking can slide for a moment before it finds tarmac again. On some roads the strips are hard to avoid, so the answer lies in timing: do most of your braking before you reach them, cross them with the bike as upright and the brake as light as possible, and add pressure again once the tyre is back on a clean surface.
That kind of braking asks for a hand that can ease off and reapply the lever smoothly, in small steps. It is easiest when the blade sits close enough for the fingers to stay in contact with it throughout, without having to find it again after letting go. Set the reach on the Shiver 900 so the fingers rest on the blade with a light bend. The standard length of about 138 mm, closest to the original lever and made in every colour, suits this well; the long blade, in blue, gold, green or orange, gives the whole hand room, and the short one, in blue, gold, green, orange or silver, is for riders who brake with two fingers.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the EDF023 for the Shiver 900 from 2017 to 2020 and names a version called Shiver 900 NAVI for 2019. The lever mounts on the original front master cylinder. The same part is listed for the Dorsoduro 900, which shares the Shiver's engine, and for several earlier Aprilia twins. For the clutch, Accossato lists the ESC023 for the Shiver 900 over the same years.
Road Approval
There is no documented ABE for German roads covering this lever, which is why it is sold for track use.
