DescriptionThe whole story

The MT-09 SP makes it easy to arrive at a corner faster than intended. ZCOO's answer is the B005 - the longest pad ZCOO builds - filling the Brembo caliper of the MT-09 SP. The compound is EX Race, which on the Yamaha MT-09 SP builds force with the lever instead of ahead of it.

Key Features

  • Consistent across the whole 3-year listing for the MT-09 SP, so a used bike takes the same reference as a new one
  • Selected by ZCOO for the Yamaha MT-09 SP out of the sixteen shapes in the 2026 programme
  • Compatible with the standard Brembo retaining pin and spring of the MT-09 SP - nothing else to buy
  • Stable friction from the first squeeze to the wear limit, so the MT-09 SP brakes the same on a cold morning and at the bottom of a pass
  • Front axle only: ZCOO lists no rear pad under the B005 reference
  • Tested and specified for the 2024 to 2026 model years of the Yamaha MT-09 SP, not extrapolated from a neighbouring year

Construction and Material Quality

The B005 is a racing part in the way it is made, not only in the way it is sold. The Brembo fitment sets the outline; everything behind the friction face of the B005 is ZCOO's own. None of it is visible once the B005 is in the Brembo caliper, which is precisely the point.

Performance and Feel

There is nothing dramatic about the first squeeze of an EX Race B005, and that is deliberate. In exchange for a modest first bite the B005 gives the same bite on the tenth stop as on the first. A grabby pad on a short-wheelbase MT-09 SP is not merely uncomfortable - it is destabilising.

Fitment and Compatibility

ZCOO's 2026 catalogue lists this reference for the Yamaha MT-09 SP across 3 model years (2024 to 2026). The same B005 shape covers 117 further machines in the 2026 catalogue. Front axle only. Before ordering, check that your caliper takes a pad of 102.2 mm length and 42.0 mm height.

Road Approval

No ECE R90 type approval is documented for this pad. It appears neither in ZCOO's own catalogue nor on the European distributor's site, and no approval number is printed on the packaging data available to us. ZCOO itself describes the compound as suited to competition machines and road machines alike, but that is a description of the mixture, not a type approval. Until the distributor confirms an approval in writing, treat this as a track and competition part: in Germany a replacement brake pad without ECE R90 approval may not be fitted to a motorcycle used on public roads. Ask us before ordering if you need this clarified for your machine.
