A large share of MT-03s never belong to the person riding them. It is one of the standard A2 machines of riding schools and rental fleets, and a bike in that service is looked after by an operator for whom every consumable is multiplied by the number of machines in the yard. A disposable air filter is a line that repeats per machine, per service, for as long as the fleet exists. The Sprint Filter P08 PM44S is bought once per motorcycle instead: dry woven polyester, cleaned with the compressed air already on the wall, and built to last the life of the machine.
Key Features
- 80 microns of filtration with 5,050 litres per square metre per second of flow
- The P08 medium is dry polyester, never oiled, so no film reaches the intake sensors
- Twice the filtering area, near enough, of other performance filters
- Replaces the original in the standard airbox: nothing modified, nothing remapped, homologation intact
- Washable and reusable, built to stay with the motorcycle for life
- Warranty of two years from the day it was bought
What fleet duty does to an intake
Training work is slow, repetitive and close to the ground: first-gear manoeuvring, clutch and brake dust, and an apron stirred up all day by the machines using it. None of that is what a service schedule was written around. A washable element lets an operator restore the intake when the conditions warrant it rather than when a part has arrived — the job costs labour and nothing else.
Dry, because oil is one more thing to stock and dose
Oiled cotton gauze needs its oil renewed correctly after every clean. Across a yard of motorcycles that is a stock item, a procedure and a way to get it wrong; too much, and the surplus sits where the engine measures its air. The P08 has no such step: woven polyester spun from threads of 22 microns and upwards, used dry and regenerated with an air line. Sprint Filter's own comparison puts a four-layer oiled cotton filter at 76.42 per cent retention of 100-micron test particles against 93.13 per cent for the dry P08. Finer media exist where the work justifies them — P037 at 37 microns, P14 at 14 — but each step finer costs flow: 5,050 litres per square metre per second against 4,500 and 1,800. Finer holds more and passes less; it is a trade, not a ranking. No filter in a standard airbox adds power. What this one adds is a low intake resistance that stays where it was put.
Care and cleaning
Nothing gets oiled here, and nothing gets dried with heat: no hot air, no flame. The regular service is compressed air from the clean side outwards. Where that leaves dirt behind, lukewarm water and a mild detergent lift it, rinsed until the water runs clear. It then sits in open air until dry through, and is refitted dry. The Sprint Filter maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Yamaha MT-03, 2015 to 2026, and a direct replacement in the standard airbox. The same PM44S element serves four machines built around this airbox: the MT-03, the YZF-R25, the YZF-R3 and the SR 400; the full list is in the Fitment tab.
