What It Keeps Out of the Suspension
Everything the tyre lifts travels forward towards the shock and its linkage. A guard fixed to the swingarm intercepts it close to the source rather than after it has spread, which is the whole reason for mounting it there instead of on the frame.
The payoff shows up years later as a shock shaft without pitting and linkage bearings that still turn smoothly. Neither is visible on the day it is fitted.
The Part Number Belongs to Another Model
MD-MN08 is a Monster series number, and the manufacturer's own description still names the 796 and 1100. Fullsix lists it for the Hypermotard, so the number is correct even though the name reads as though it is not.
