DescriptionThe whole story▼
Honda sells two Africa Twins and Akrapovic builds two headers, because the Adventure Sports is not simply a taller version of the standard bike. Bigger tank, longer travel, a different subframe and a different exhaust route — and this is the part number that fits it.
Key Features
- Built specifically for the Adventure Sports, not the standard Africa Twin
- Covers seven model years, 2020 through 2026, on one number
- 2.4 kg, taking 2.3 kg off the standard assembly
- Finished stainless steel
- Works with either Akrapovic Slip-On Line for this machine
- Compatible with Honda's centre stand and front side pipe kit
- Closed course competition use only
Why the Adventure Sports Needs Its Own Number
The two Africa Twins share an engine and very little else around it. The Adventure Sports carries a 24.8 litre tank against 18.8, a taller subframe, and on most versions the electronic suspension. Where the header runs between the cylinder head and the swingarm pivot is not the same on the two bikes.
Fitting the standard bike's E-H11R1 to an Adventure Sports is not a matter of persuasion. It is the wrong part.
Two Hundred and Eighty Grams Apart
This header comes in at 2.4 kg. The one for the standard machine reaches 2.12. Both start from the same 4.7 kg factory assembly, and the difference between them is pipework length: the Adventure Sports simply needs more steel to cover the distance.
Nobody will feel 280 grams. It is quoted because the two part numbers sit next to each other in the catalogue and the figures differ, which invites the question.
Seven Model Years
Honda has built the CRF1100L Adventure Sports since 2020 without changing the exhaust route, so one header covers the whole run to date. That is unusually broad coverage for a part in this catalogue and it makes the Adventure Sports a straightforward bike to buy for.
The Noise Data Contradicts Itself
Akrapovic's record for this part lists 99.7 dB for the standard exhaust and 95 dB with the header fitted, both at 3,750 rpm — that is, quieter after removing the catalytic converter, which is not physically plausible.
The entry for the standard bike's header, E-H11R1, gives the same two numbers the other way round: 95 dB standard, 99.7 with the part fitted. That is almost certainly the correct reading and this one has its fields transposed. Expect the Adventure Sports to get louder, not quieter, and treat the exact figure as unverified.
Both Slip-Ons Fit
Akrapovic notes that this header combines with either Slip-On Line exhaust for the Adventure Sports — the earlier S-H11SO2-HGJT and the current S-H11SO4-HAFT. That is useful for an owner who fitted a slip-on years ago and is only now adding the header.
Touring Hardware Survives
The centre stand and Honda's front side pipe kit both remain usable. On a motorcycle bought for long distances, that is not a detail — it is the difference between a part that suits the bike and one that fights it.
Remapping and the Check Light
Akrapovic recommends rather than requires ECU remapping. On Euro 5+ machines the engine check light will come on once the ECU notices the catalytic converter is gone, which is expected rather than faulty.
Road Approval
None whatsoever. Akrapovic marks the part as failing emission compliance for street and highway riding, and the missing catalytic converter is the reason.
