DescriptionThe whole story▼

The Honda CB500F is one of those bikes that get used every day: to work, to the shops, through winter as well as summer, and very often parked in the open. Its single front disc does all the stopping at the front, whatever the weather. Accossato's DK230 is an Elite line floating front disc for the Honda CB500F, listed for 2013 to 2021. It measures 320 mm across and 5 mm thick, the same thickness as the original disc according to the supplier, and has a black carrier with the Accossato logo on the rivets.

Key Features

  • Elite floating front disc for the Honda CB500F, 2013 to 2021
  • Thickness equal to the original disc: 5 mm, per the supplier
  • 320 mm outer diameter, 210 mm inner diameter
  • Black carrier, Accossato logo on the rivets
  • Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
  • The CB500F of these years has a single front disc, so one is enough
  • Accossato levers for this bike: EDF018 and EDF025 brake, ESH250 clutch
  • No German ABE documented; for track use

Construction and Material Quality

Floating and part of the Elite line, the DK230 has its friction ring riveted to a black carrier, with the Accossato logo on each rivet. The supplier gives the thickness as 5 mm, equal to the original disc, the outer diameter as 320 mm and the inner diameter as 210 mm. Because the thickness matches the original, the pads and caliper pistons sit where they did before. Accossato says the disc reflects its experience in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3, a careful selection of materials and close study of the play between ring and carrier.

Parked Outside

A bike that lives outdoors shows it first on its brake discs. After a night of rain, or even a damp morning, the friction ring of a CB500F can take on a thin orange film of rust. That is normal and harmless: the first few stops wipe it off, although the brake may feel slightly rough until they have. It becomes a problem only if the bike stands for weeks, when the rust bites deeper and leaves pitting that no amount of riding will clear, and the pads may stick to the disc.

If your CB500F spends its nights outside, a cover helps, and so does riding it regularly. Before setting off after a long break, push the bike a few metres and use the brake to check that nothing is stuck. On salted winter roads, rinse the wheels with fresh water when you get home, and let the discs dry by riding gently for a minute. Check the rivets of a floating disc for corrosion from time to time. Measure the disc against the printed minimum at every service, and replace it if it is thin, deeply pitted or cracked; Accossato's advice is to renew discs at thirty to forty thousand kilometres or earlier, a distance a daily-ridden CB500F can reach quickly.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the DK230 for the Honda CB500F from 2013 to 2021; later model years are not on the list. The bike has one front disc in these years, so a single DK230 does the job. For the controls, Accossato also lists the EDF018 and EDF025 brake levers and the ESH250 clutch lever. Before fitting, check the new disc against your original, and tighten the bolts to Honda's specification.

Road Approval

There is no documented German ABE and no type approval for the DK230; it is sold for use on the track.
