DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Ducati Hypermotard 821 takes its riding position from supermoto: wide bars, a tall seat and a front end that invites the rider to brake late and turn in hard. On tight mountain roads and in town, that style means frequent, forceful use of the front brake. Accossato's DK053 is a floating front disc with a black carrier, 320 mm across and 4.5 mm thick, listed for the Hypermotard 821 of 2013 to 2016 including the SP version.
Key Features
- Floating front disc for the Ducati Hypermotard 821 and 821 SP, 2013 to 2016
- Covers bikes with and without ABS
- 320 mm diameter, 72 mm bore, 4.5 mm thick
- Black carrier; friction ring held by rivets
- Interchangeable with the original disc
- Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
- One disc supplied; the Hypermotard runs two
- No German ABE on record, for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Built as a floating disc, the DK053 has an outer ring for the pads and a black carrier for the mounting, held together by rivets. The two parts may shift a little relative to each other, which helps the ring stay flat when repeated hard stops heat it. Accossato gives the bore as 72 mm and states that the disc is interchangeable with the original equipment disc. The company links its disc know-how to Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3 and claims that the restrained weight of its discs helps steering and control.
Supermoto Habits on the Road
Supermoto-style riding puts the load on the front. The rider sits forward, squeezes hard at the last moment and releases smoothly into the corner, and on a Hypermotard 821 that pattern repeats at every hairpin. Two consequences follow for the discs. They heat up in short bursts, which they cope with as long as the next straight gives them time to cool. And they wear faster than on a bike ridden gently, so it pays to measure them more often than the service schedule suggests. Accossato prints the minimum working thickness on each disc and recommends replacing it once that limit is reached, or earlier if it shows scoring or cracks.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the DK053 for the Hypermotard 821 from 2013 to 2016, in the standard version with or without ABS and as the SP. Two discs make up the front brake, and the price is for one. The thicker DKS053 is Accossato's other disc for this bike; among its levers, the EDB012 and ESD082 are listed for the Hypermotard 821 and the EDD001 for the SP.
Road Approval
The DK053 has no German ABE, and there is no type approval on record either. It belongs on the circuit.
Scope of Delivery
One DK053 floating front disc on a black carrier; the disc for the other side is ordered separately.
