DescriptionThe whole story▼

Owners of the R 1200 RS tend to keep their bikes tidy, and the half-faired sports tourer is often washed and polished after a ride. Care is good, but some cleaning products do not belong anywhere near the front brake. For the R 1200 RS and RS Sport of 2015 to 2018, Accossato lists the DK007: a fixed steel front disc of 320 mm, made in one piece, which Accossato lists with the note that a fitting kit is required on this bike.

Key Features

  • Fixed front disc for the BMW R 1200 RS and RS Sport, 2015 to 2018
  • Single piece of steel, per Accossato
  • Outer diameter 320 mm, inner diameter 181 mm
  • 5 mm thick new; minimum working thickness printed
  • Accossato lists a fitting kit as required on this bike (not included)
  • One disc per order; two front discs on the R 1200 RS
  • Smaller DK006 also listed for this model
  • No German ABE on record, for track use

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato makes two front discs that its list connects with the R 1200 RS, and they are built the same way. Both are fixed, one-piece steel discs with a 181 mm centre bore and a 5 mm friction face. The DK007 is the larger of the two, with an outer diameter of 320 mm. Accossato puts the design down to what it learned in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3 racing and prints the minimum thickness on the disc because, as the company warns, a worn disc can break when it is stressed to the extreme.

Clean Hands, Clean Disc

Brake discs and pads work only when they are free of grease, oil and silicone. The trouble is that many products used around a motorcycle contain exactly that: tyre shine, polish for paint and plastics, spray wax, even the fine mist from a lubricant used on levers or cables. Because the R 1200 RS has shaft drive, there is no chain spray to worry about, but a single careless pass of a polishing cloth can reach the disc. Cover the front wheel when you treat the fairing, and clean the disc afterwards with brake cleaner on a lint-free cloth if anything may have landed on it. Never use a rag that has touched wax. If a pad has soaked up oil, cleaning the disc alone will not help; the pads have to be replaced. After washing the bike, remember that wet discs grip less for the first few applications, so test the brakes gently before riding off.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the DK007 for the R 1200 RS from 2015 to 2018, including the RS Sport. The same list also names the DK006, with a smaller outer diameter, for the R 1200 RS from 2014 to 2018. Because the two cannot both suit the same calipers, measure your present disc; the DK007 matches 320 mm. The R 1200 RS carries two front discs, and the price is for a single disc.

Road Approval

Anyone planning road use in Germany should know that the DK007 has no ABE and no documented type approval. We offer it for circuit and competition use.

Scope of Delivery

The order covers one DK007 fixed front disc for the R 1200 RS; fixing bolts and pads are sold separately.
