DescriptionThe whole story▼

On summer evenings the S 1000 R is a regular at bike nights: cafés and car parks where riders gather, machines stand in long rows and people wander between them looking at each other's bikes. Crowded parking brings its own risks. Someone backing out catches a mirror, a passer-by leans on a seat, and one bike falls into the next. For the S 1000 R of 2017 and 2018, Accossato lists the TP099 crash pads, two pads of CNC-machined aluminium with an anodised insert in one of six colours and an optional screw cover to match.

Key Features

  • Crash pads for the BMW S 1000 R, 2017 to 2018
  • Accossato code TP099, two pads per pack
  • CNC-machined aluminium
  • Anodised insert in blue, green, black, red, silver or gold
  • Screw cover in the insert colour available as an option
  • Some bikes need the bodywork drilled; ask us about the S 1000 R before ordering
  • Pairs with the PF047 front and PP001 rear axle sliders
  • No German ABE; for track and competition use

Construction and Material Quality

Each TP099 pad starts as aluminium and is shaped on CNC machines; the anodised insert then adds colour, from a choice of six. Order the screw cover and it comes in the same shade as the insert. There are two pads in each pack. Accossato notes that fitting its pads means drilling the fairing or bodywork on some models, and the application list does not specify which. For your S 1000 R, ask us before you order and we will clarify whether drilling is needed.

Parked in a Row at the Bike Night

Bike nights are sociable, relaxed and full of people who are not watching where they put their feet. Machines stand close together, often on sloping ground, and the gap between two sets of handlebars is sometimes no wider than a hand. When one bike falls, it can take its neighbour with it. You cannot control other people, but you can choose where you park: at the end of a row, on firm and level ground, with enough room to wheel the bike out without reversing between others. Lock the steering and leave it in gear. If the S 1000 R does get knocked over, crash pads are meant to be the first point of contact with the ground or with the bike next to it, which can mean less damage to frame and panels. Afterwards, check the pads and the bodywork around them, and replace a pad that is badly scraped.

Fitment and Compatibility

The TP099 is listed for the S 1000 R of 2017 and 2018 only; earlier examples of the bike are not on the list for this part. Accossato also offers the PF047 front axle sliders and the PP001 rear axle sliders for the same model. Whether drilling is required on your bike is something we check with you before the order. After fitting, turn the handlebar fully in both directions and make sure nothing touches the pads.

Road Approval

No test documents or German ABE are available to us for the TP099, so it is listed for racing and competition.
