DescriptionThe whole story▼
Many supermoto riders do most of their riding on kart tracks. The corners are tight and the straights short, and a big single such as the SWM SM 650 R spends much of the lap in the lower gears, braking hard and accelerating out of hairpins. That makes the clutch lever one of the most used controls on the bike. Accossato's C7182 replaces that control on the 2016 SM 650 R: a folding lever milled from Ergal 7075, with a long blade the whole hand can use and a hinge between blade and base.
Key Features
- Folding clutch lever for the SWM SM 650 R, model year 2016
- Installed at the original clutch control
- Long blade with room for four fingers
- Anti-break hinge allows the blade to fold forward
- Machined from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Blade in black, blue or orange on a dark base
- No German ABE on record; for closed circuits and off-road use
Construction and Material Quality
The C7182 is carved out of a solid block of Ergal 7075 on CNC machines in Italy. Ergal 7075 is an aluminium alloy of high strength, and Accossato uses it to make levers that are strong and reliable without being heavy. Two parts result: a dark base mounted at the pivot, plus a blade hung from it on a hinge and finished in black, blue or orange. The blade is long and shaped for four fingers, which suits the repetitive clutch work of a supermoto session.
Hairpins on a Kart Track
A kart-track hairpin on a big supermoto is a sequence repeated dozens of times per session. Brake hard in a straight line, drop two or three gears, pull the clutch to calm the rear wheel as the bike turns in, then feed it out again as the SM 650 R comes upright and the throttle opens. In the slowest corners the clutch is slipped briefly on the way out so the big single does not chug below its comfortable revs. Many riders keep four fingers on the lever for that work, spreading the effort across the hand.
Kart tracks are also where supermotos fall over in unspectacular ways. A cold front tyre tucks in the first hairpin, a rider misjudges a kerb, or the bike topples in the paddock when its stand sinks into soft ground. Each time, the clutch lever may hit the asphalt. The C7182's hinge gives the blade a way to fold forward on impact rather than snapping, so a harmless tumble has a better chance of staying harmless. No lever comes through every crash, but one that folds rather than breaks can save a track day that has already been paid for.
Fitment and Compatibility
Only one model year of the SWM SM 650 R, 2016, is named in Accossato's list for the C7182, which goes on the original clutch control. Further years of the SM 650 R are not covered, and no Accossato brake lever from this range is listed for the bike. The blade can be ordered in black, blue or orange.
Road Approval
There is no German ABE on record for the C7182. Although the SM 650 R is registered for the road, this lever is only intended for closed circuits and off-road use; fitted to the bike on public roads, it is not approved.
