DescriptionThe whole story▼
In dense city traffic, a motorcycle can often move where cars cannot, and in countries that allow it, filtering past a stationary queue is part of daily riding. It is also some of the most precise clutch work a rider ever does: first gear, walking pace, the drive fed in and taken away again as gaps open and close. The Accossato ESD037 is a clutch lever for the Benelli BN600 R of 2014 to 2016, machined from aluminium, adjustable in reach and made in three lengths.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Benelli BN600 R, 2014 to 2016
- Replaces the stock lever at the original clutch mounting
- Reach adjustable
- Standard blade about 138 mm in all colours; short and long in selected colours
- Black hub, blade anodised in one of seven colours
- CNC-machined from solid aluminium
- Blade fixed, no folding joint
- No German ABE documented; sold for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Each ESD037 begins as a block of aluminium that a CNC machine turns into a lever, cutting the pivot bore, the seat for the adjuster and the curve of the blade. After machining, the lever is anodised, the hub in black and the blade in the colour you order. The finish is a hard layer formed out of the aluminium rather than a coating added to it. No hinge interrupts the blade; the ESD037 is a fixed lever from pivot to tip.
Filtering Past a Queue
Filtering, where it is legal, is done slowly and with room to stop. The bike moves at little more than walking pace, the rider's eyes are on mirrors, doors and pedestrians, and the left hand holds the clutch near the friction point so that speed can be trimmed by a fraction without touching the brake. On the BN600 R, the four-cylinder runs smoothly at low revs, which helps, but the clutch still does the delicate part. A lever that is too far from the grip makes the fingers work at full stretch, and after a few minutes the control becomes coarse. Moving the ESD037 closer makes the friction point easier to hold, and the hand stays relaxed enough to react when a gap closes or a door opens. Riders who use two fingers on the clutch may like the short blade, which leaves the other fingers wrapped round the grip; if the pull feels heavy after a long crawl through town, the long blade, in gold, orange, blue or green, spreads the effort. Whatever the setting, keep your speed only slightly above that of the traffic, and keep the right hand ready on the brake of the BN600 R.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the ESD037 for the BN 600 from 2014 to 2016 and adds a separate entry for a BN 600 R in 2014. In our garage the bike appears as BN600 R. The lever fits the original clutch mounting. Its partner for the front brake is the EDF016, listed for the same three years with the same black hub and colours.
Road Approval
A German ABE is not documented for the ESD037. It is sold for track use.
Scope of Delivery
