DescriptionThe whole story▼
A brake lever is measured in two directions: how far it stands off the grip, and how far it runs along your fingers. On the BMW S1000RR, the Accossato EDF022 lets you decide both. The distance to the grip is adjustable on the lever itself, and the blade is made in a short, a standard and a long version. It is machined from aluminium in Accossato's plant outside Turin and mounts on the original BMW master cylinder of the RR, listed by Accossato for the 2009 to 2019 model years.
Key Features
- Replaces the original front brake lever and mounts on the BMW master cylinder
- Distance to the grip adjustable on the lever
- Three blade lengths: short, standard at about 138 mm, and long
- Machined from solid aluminium and anodised
- Black hub with the blade in one of seven colours
- Fixed blade without a folding joint
- Delivered in its own Accossato box
- No German ABE documented, sold for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato cuts the EDF022 from a solid aluminium blank on CNC machines instead of casting it, which is why the edges are crisp and the section stays even from the pivot to the tip. The hub, which carries the pivot bore and the adjuster, is always anodised black. Only the blade takes the colour you choose, so the part sitting next to the master cylinder and the switch housing stays unobtrusive while the colour is out where you see it. There is no hinge in the blade: the EDF022 is a fixed lever, one piece from hub to tip, with no joint that could develop play over the seasons.
Choosing the Length
The three lengths change how the lever works, not only how it looks. A short blade is made for braking with two fingers while the other two stay wrapped around the throttle; because it ends early, it cannot trap the ring and little finger against the grip at full pull. The standard blade is the closest match to the original BMW part and the natural choice for mixed road riding. The long blade leaves room for four fingers and gives more leverage at the tip, which suits riders who make a hard stop with the whole hand. For an S1000RR that spends most of its time on circuits, short is the usual pick; for the road, standard is the safe one. Not every colour is made in every length: black and red exist only as standard levers.
Setting the Reach
The adjuster sits close to the pivot, so the blade can be brought in for smaller hands or moved out for thicker gloves. Set it in your normal riding gloves with the bike upright: the lever should meet your fingers at the first joint without the wrist bending down. After fitting, make sure the brake light comes on as soon as the lever moves and that there is a little free travel before the pads bite, as you would after any lever change.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the EDF022 for the S1000RR from 2009 to 2019. That covers the first RR of 2009 to 2014 and the revised version from 2015. The 2019 model year also introduced the completely new RR, so for a 2019 bike compare your original lever and master cylinder with the product photos before ordering. For the clutch side of 2015 to 2019 bikes, the matching Accossato lever is the ESB22H.
Road Approval
No German type approval (ABE) is documented for this lever. We therefore sell it for track use.
