The dirtiest air a YZF-R7 breathes is usually not on the circuit. It is in the field beside it: a gravel paddock in August, engines idling in rows, vans and trailers moving between them, and a warm-up session's worth of dust hanging over all of it before the first bike goes out. Circuits are swept; paddocks are not. The Sprint Filter CM148P14 is the element for owners who have noticed that — a dry special non-woven filtering at 14 microns with a rated 1,800 l/m²/sec, catalogued for dusty conditions, everyday use and long distances.
Key Features
- Dry special non-woven with a filtration figure of 14 microns
- Rated flow of 1,800 l/m²/sec, given up deliberately in exchange for retention
- Around twice the filter area of other performance filters within the standard housing
- Drops into the series airbox; nothing is cut and nothing is remapped
- No oil in it and no oiling step, so the intake stays dry all the way to the throttle bodies
- Warranted for two years from purchase and designed to last the bike's life
Where the load really comes from
An R7 that gets used properly spends its weekends parked and idling in exactly the environment its air filter would least choose, with the engine running for much of it. Add the road miles to and from the venue behind slower traffic, and the picture moves from clean-track to something much closer to ordinary dusty road use. None of that is visible from the saddle. It shows up on the element, which is the one part of the intake that can be lifted out and looked at once the airbox is open.
What 14 microns cost, and when the P08 is better
Retention and flow always move in opposite directions. Set against the standard P08 at 80 microns and a rated 5,050 l/m²/sec, this medium filters far finer at 14 microns and passes 1,800 — a real reduction, one a parallel twin will not notice on the road but might notice at the very top of the range on a fast circuit. The T12 at 7 microns and 560 goes further again and belongs on machines ridden in genuine dirt. If your R7 lives on clean tarmac and sees a sighting lap more often than a gravel paddock, buy the P08 instead. Neither medium adds power to a standard engine; what improves is a lower and repeatable restriction, not a headline figure.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air applied to the clean face, so the dust leaves by the dirty one, is the standard service and can be done at the track. A wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent handles whatever the air line leaves behind; rinse it out, dry it in moving air until it is dry throughout, and keep it clear of heat sources and naked flame. It goes back in dry and unoiled. The maintenance sheet for the CM148P14 sits in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Yamaha YZF-R7 of 2021 to 2026, replacing the original element in the unmodified airbox. This part number is listed for the R7 alone, while the P08 version of the same housing serves several further Yamaha models; the Fitment tab has the details.
