These designations existed for two model years, 2016 and 2017. A decade on, most of them lead the life a big touring Triumph tends to lead: one long trip in summer, a handful of good weekends, and then months standing in a garage under a cover. That pattern deserves a thought, because a parked motorcycle still has an open path from the airbox inlet to the outside world. The Sprint Filter PM202S is a dry woven polyester filter that is washed and refitted rather than thrown away, which turns the end of the season into the moment you deal with it.
Key Features
- Polyester threads from ø 22 microns in a single woven layer, aperture calibrated at 80 µm
- An airflow rating of 5,050 l/m²/sec, which is Sprint Filter's standard road and track medium
- Nothing creeps downstream onto sensors or throttle bodies, because the medium is dry and never oiled
- Inside the standard airbox, a filtering surface roughly double that of other performance filters
- No airbox modification, no remap, no paperwork — it is a direct replacement
- Washable, reusable, built to last the life of the motorcycle, two years of warranty from purchase
The months when nothing turns
Garages are dusty places, and they are rarely dry. Over a winter, an airbox collects a share of whatever the space holds, and the element is the surface it settles on. The condition of the intake on the first ride of spring is the condition the bike was put away in. A washable element makes putting it away clean a realistic option. The end-of-season routine already involves a wash and a battery on a charger; an air line through the PM202S adds ten minutes and means the bike starts its next season on a known state rather than on last year's road film.
The first ride of the year
It has to be said plainly: a drop-in element does not make a standard 1200 triple noticeably more powerful. What it changes is consistency. A cellulose filter begins its life at its best and gets worse in one direction until it is binned, so the state of the intake depends entirely on where in the interval you happen to be. The P08 medium is brought back to its starting restriction at every service, which suits a machine used in bursts far better than a mileage-based consumable does — a bike that covers little distance can still sit for years with an element that nobody has touched.
Care and cleaning
The routine takes compressed air, applied on the clean side and blown outwards. Where the element has taken a hard season, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse until the water runs clear and dry it fully in open air — never with heat, never with a flame. It goes back dry, with no oiling step at any point. The maintenance sheet waits under the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Triumph Tiger Explorer XCx, XCa and XR of 2016 to 2017, listed at 1215. The same element serves six Tiger Explorer listings altogether, from 2011 through to 2022, so a two-year designation does not leave you with a two-year part. Model years are listed in the Fitment tab.
