2026 is the KB399's first year, which means nothing about owning one has a precedent yet. There is no accumulated wisdom yet about which services matter and which are formalities, and no second-hand market to learn from. Everything an owner establishes in the first years is the standard the model will be judged by later. That is an argument for treating the routine items seriously rather than as afterthoughts, and the intake is the most routine of them all. The Sprint Filter P08 PM164S is the washable dry element for the standard airbox.
Key Features
- Straight into the standard airbox — nothing modified, nothing remapped, homologation untouched
- Never oiled: a dry medium leaves nothing that can migrate downstream onto sensors or throttle bodies
- Washable and reusable; the routine service is a line of compressed air
- Roughly double the filtering surface of a typical performance filter
- Polyester thread from ø 22 microns upwards, woven to a calibrated aperture; nothing here is pressed from pulp
- Warranty of two years, starting at the date of purchase
A hand-finished motorcycle on series-production service parts
What makes a Bimota a Bimota is the part of it that is made in small numbers. What keeps it running is the part that is not. The PM164S is a case in point: the same element serves eleven machines — the KB399 and ten Kawasaki models built around this airbox — which is why it is a part number with a long life ahead of it rather than a curiosity tied to one low-volume model.
Setting the standard at the first service
Because there is no history to inherit, the first service sets the habit. A dry polyester element makes that habit an easy one to keep: compressed air from the clean side is the normal service, water and a mild detergent handle a hard season, and there is no oiling step to get wrong — nothing that can migrate downstream onto sensors or throttle bodies, and nothing to cure before the bike goes back together. It is a direct replacement in the original position, so no modification and no remap are involved, and Sprint Filter designs the P08 to last the life of the motorcycle. The restriction stays where it started rather than climbing quietly between services.
Care and cleaning
The first service sets the pattern, and the pattern is short. Compressed air from the clean side, worked outwards, and the element goes straight back in dry. When it has taken on more than air will shift, lukewarm water and a mild detergent are the next step, followed by a rinse until the water runs clear and a full air dry — never with heat, never with a flame. No oil is involved at any point, so there is nothing to reapply and nothing to cure before the bike is reassembled. The Sprint Filter maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
