How to measure your helmet size correctly: To find the right helmet size, measure your head circumference with a flexible tape measure.
It is important that the tape measure runs around the widest part of the head – only then will you get a correct result.
Place the tape measure at the front, about 1–2 cm above the eyebrows, and run it along the sides above the ears.
At the back, the tape must run over the largest part of the back of the head (not too low on the neck). The tape may run slightly at an angle – what matters is that it sits all the way around the largest points of the head.
Make sure the tape measure sits snugly but does not dig in. Measure 2–3 times for the most accurate result. You can then compare the measured value in centimetres (cm) with our size chart.
Tips for an accurate result
- Keep hair flat (e.g. do not measure over a voluminous hairstyle)
- Keep the tape horizontal, i.e. along the largest circumference
- Do not measure too loosely
- For values between two sizes:
→ usually choose the larger size (depending on helmet model / fit)
Important note on fit
The right helmet should fit firmly without causing uncomfortable pressure points.
A new helmet may feel a little tighter at first, as the inner lining adapts slightly over time.

Matt black is the default, and not because of fashion — it is the one finish that never clashes and never dates. On this helmet it also hides the seam between chin bar and upper shell almost entirely, because there are no highlights running along the shell to trace it.
What SHARP measured, and where this helmet sits
SHARP: four stars out of five, ECE 22.06, tested August 2026. And because a rating is only useful if you read all of it, here is the part most shops leave out: SHARP also records that the chin bar remained fully locked in 37 % of impacts.
That number needs context rather than alarm. It means the bar opened in most impacts — but this helmet is homologated P/J, tested and approved as a jet with the bar raised as well as a full-face with it closed. An unlatched bar therefore does not remove head protection; it removes chin protection. The four stars are the overall result including that behaviour, and for comparison the previous FF902 Scope managed 87 % and the Advant X 63 %.

About the matt black finish
Matt black absorbs light rather than bouncing it, and that single property drives everything about living with it. Scratches effectively vanish — there is no gloss layer for them to catch in — making it the most forgiving finish here on a helmet that spends its life on tank bags and café tables. It is also the least conspicuous, and that cuts both ways: understated on the bike, and genuinely harder for a driver to pick out at dusk than the white version on this same page. If you commute in poor light that is a real consideration, and it is the argument for the reflective stickers in the box. Two more honest notes: it shows dust and dried water spots sooner than any other finish, and a black shell runs hotter in direct sun.
Three shells, and what KPA actually is
Three shell sizes across XS to 3XL, and there is a protection argument buried in that. Impact energy is absorbed by the EPS liner crushing, and the liner has to be the right thickness for the head inside it. Stretch one shell across seven sizes and the small sizes carry more foam than the standard requires while the large ones get the minimum. Three tools keep every size closer to its design thickness — which is presumably part of why this helmet rated as well as it did.
Ninety degrees, and how the chin bar locks
What ninety degrees means in practice, stated plainly. With the bar up you can drink, talk, take a call and get air onto a hot face at a standstill. What you should not do is ride at speed with it open: an upright chin bar is a sail, it drums, and it loads the pivots continuously in a way they were not designed for. That is true of every conventional flip-up, including this one.
What ECE 22.06 and the P/J label mean
Rotation is what a real crash usually delivers. A glancing blow that twists the head tears the bridging veins between brain and skull, and it does so at energies a shell survives comfortably. Until 2021 no European standard measured it at all. ECE 22.06 does, through an oblique drop onto an abrasive anvil, against the Brain Injury Criterion. That is the substantive change, and it is why a 22.06 rating is not comparable with a 22.05 one.
Twin Visor, sun visor — and the Pinlock that is not in the box
The internal sun visor is the feature that makes a modular helmet usable all day: a lever on the side of the shell, one movement down, one movement away. No swapping screens at a service station, no second visor in the luggage, no choosing between a tinted screen you cannot use after dark and a clear one that leaves you squinting at four in the afternoon in March.
Air, the breath deflector and the elastic-band liner
The crown liner is held by elastic bands rather than press studs alone, which is a small detail with a real consequence: it lets the liner conform to the top of the head instead of being pulled flat against the EPS at fixed points. Riders with a pronounced crown notice it immediately, because a flat-mounted liner is what produces the hot spot at the top of the forehead.
1700 grams, no emergency release, and the rest of the honest list
Three gaps, in order of how much they should influence your decision. No emergency release. No Pinlock included — budget for the DKS520 insert separately. 1700 grams, which your neck stabilises on a lever every time the road moves: fine on a commute, a genuine factor on a long day.
Wind noise gets the same treatment as everything else here: there is no measured figure for this model, so there is no number on this page. Structurally it enters at the neck roll, under the chin bar and through the vents, and the chin curtain — a twenty-euro part — closes the largest of those gaps.
When something wears out
The interior decides how long the helmet lasts you, and it is the part riders most often misdiagnose. Liner foam compresses and breaks down chemically from sweat; as it does the fit loosens, the helmet starts to move on the head, and it lets in noise that was not there before. The natural conclusion is that the helmet is finished. Usually the shell is untouched and a sixty-euro liner restores it completely.
