It is a genuinely different optical effect from a metallic flake, and it is expensive to apply well, which is why it appears rarely at this price. The matt black ground is the right decision — a gloss base would add its own reflections and fight the effect, while a flat one lets the pigment be the only thing moving. 🔵 Two things to know. The effect is largely lost in flat overcast light, which is when a helmet most needs to be seen, so treat this as a visual choice rather than a conspicuity one. And like every printed or pigmented graphic it cannot be touched in after a deep scratch, so a serious mark is permanent. It is worth saying that this is the one finish here we would not recommend on safety grounds — a matt black shell with an effect that only appears in direct light is, in poor conditions, simply a matt black helmet.
