DescriptionThe whole story▼
Kawasaki brought the KLE name back for 2026, thirty years after the original KLE 500 made mid-size adventure riding affordable. The new bike is a 451 cc parallel twin, and this is Akrapovic's silencer for it — a newly designed titanium muffler rather than an existing part with new brackets.
Key Features
- 2.8 kg against the standard 4.33 kg: 1.5 kg and 35.3 per cent less
- Imprinted titanium finish, which adds strength and durability rather than only surface pattern
- Titanium outer sleeve and end cap; stainless steel link pipe, inner structure and heat shield
- A newly designed carbon fibre heat shield is part of the product, not an extra
- 0.8 PS (0.6 kW) more at 9,000 rpm and 0.8 Nm more at 5,000 rpm
- Deep sound, throttle response and appearance named by Akrapovic as the three development goals
- EC and ECE type approved
What an Imprinted Surface Does
The pattern pressed into the sleeve is structural. A profiled wall resists denting better than a smooth one of the same thickness, which is the reason Akrapovic uses it on parts destined for bikes that leave the tarmac. On a KLE 500 — an accessible adventure machine that will be dropped at low speed while its owner learns — that is a practical decision rather than a styling one.
Where the Gains Sit
0.8 PS at 9,000 rpm and 0.8 Nm at 5,000 rpm on a 451 cc twin are modest and stated as measured. The 5,000 rpm torque is the more useful of the two: it is where the engine works on a gravel climb, and where a rider on a licence-restricted machine spends most of the day.
The larger arguments are the 1.5 kg taken off the high outside of the bike, and a sound that Akrapovic tuned specifically for this engine.
What the KLE Name Carried
The original KLE 500 ran from 1991 to 2007 and was, for a long stretch of that, the cheapest way into big-bike adventure riding in Europe. It was a 498 cc parallel twin with long travel, a 21-inch front wheel and a reputation for outlasting its owners' interest in it. Bringing the badge back for 2026 is a deliberate reference, and the new bike aims at the same buyer.
A2 and What That Means for the Exhaust
The KLE 500 sits inside the A2 power limit, which makes the type approval on this silencer more than a formality. Fitting a non-approved exhaust to a restricted machine puts the restriction certificate and the insurance cover in question. This one carries EC and ECE approval and changes neither.
Fitment and Compatibility
S-K5SO2-HFTT covers the Kawasaki KLE 500 for model year 2026. The carbon fibre heat shield is supplied with the silencer.
Road Approval
EC type approval and ECE type approval, with the certificates supplied and downloadable here. The silencer is a legal replacement part for road use in the European Union.
