DescriptionThe whole story▼
The KTM 125 XC-W belongs in the woods. It is a light two-stroke for cross-country riding, narrow enough to follow the tightest trails, where the gaps between trunks sometimes seem no wider than the handlebar. In that kind of terrain the bar ends and the levers are the widest parts of the bike, and they are the first to find a tree. Accossato's B8283 replaces the brake lever of the 125 XC-W from 2017 to 2019; it is milled from Ergal 7075 in Italy, and its blade is hinged so it can fold forward when the bike goes down.
Key Features
- Folding front brake lever for the KTM 125 XC-W, 2017 to 2019
- Replaces the original lever on the stock front brake master cylinder
- Short blade for three fingers
- Anti-break joint lets the blade fold away in a fall
- Milled from solid Ergal 7075 on CNC machines in Italy
- Black, blue or orange blade on a dark base
- No German ABE on record; for off-road use
Construction and Material Quality
The B8283 comes from a solid block of Ergal 7075, which Accossato mills on CNC machines in Italy. Ergal is a high-strength aluminium alloy, and the company uses it to give its off-road levers strength and reliability without weight. There are two components: a dark base, which sits on the front brake master cylinder pivot and houses the joint, and a blade in black, blue or orange. The blade follows Accossato's brake-side layout, short and meant for three fingers.
Gaps Barely Wider Than the Bars
Riders who spend their weekends in tight woods develop a sense for width. They know, without measuring, which gaps the bars will pass, and they learn to tilt the bike to squeeze through the rest. They also know the sense fails now and then. A trunk that looked clear catches the end of the bar or the lever, the front end is yanked round, and the bike goes down almost before the rider has understood what happened.
The fall that follows is usually quick and close to the ground, with the bike landing against roots, stumps or the foot of the very tree that caused it. On the right side that means the brake lever takes a knock from an unpredictable angle. The B8283 has a joint that lets its blade swing forward instead of taking the whole blow at its end, so there is a fair chance it is still usable when the 125 XC-W is back on its wheels. It will not help against every angle of impact, and no lever likes being wedged against a tree. But in woods where contact is part of the day, a blade that can fold is a real practical advantage.
Fitment and Compatibility
On the KTM 125 XC-W, the B8283 is listed for model years 2017 to 2019 and mounts on the original front brake master cylinder. Accossato offers the C7283 folding clutch lever for the same three years, so the 125 XC-W can be fitted with folding levers on both sides; the clutch lever also comes in red, while black, blue and orange are available for both.
Road Approval
There is no documented German ABE for the B8283. It is made for off-road use, the terrain the 125 XC-W is designed for.
Scope of Delivery
