DescriptionThe whole story▼
A big V-twin sends a lot of drive to the rear wheel the moment the clutch starts to bite, and on a slippery surface that drive has to be fed in with care. The first KTM 1290 Super Adventure, built for 2015 and 2016 as the long-distance flagship of the range, spends much of its life on tour, pulling away from fuel stations, wet car parks and cobbled old towns in the rain. The Accossato ESA090 is a CNC-machined aluminium clutch lever for this 1290 Super Adventure, with an adjustable reach and three blade lengths.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the KTM 1290 Super Adventure of 2015 and 2016
- Fits the original clutch mounting
- Distance to the grip adjustable for a finely metered take-up
- Long blade in blue, gold, green or orange
- Short blade in the same four colours and in silver
- Standard blade approximately 138 mm; black and red only in this length
- Anodised CNC-machined aluminium, black hub, rigid one-piece blade
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato machines the ESA090 from aluminium and anodises it, so the colour is part of a hard oxide layer at the surface rather than a coat of paint on top. The hub, which holds the pivot and the reach adjuster, is black; the blade takes the colour you choose. On the clutch side, a rigid lever has a particular benefit: with no hinge between hub and tip, none of the movement of your fingers is lost in a joint, and that direct connection is what makes a delicate take-up possible.
Pulling Away on Slippery Ground
Painted road markings, manhole covers, wet cobbles and the diesel film that gathers around fuel pumps have one thing in common: they give a rear tyre far less grip than ordinary tarmac. On a big twin the risk comes in the first metre, when the clutch starts to engage and a strong engine sends its drive to a tyre that is standing on something slippery. The answer is a slow, even release with only a little throttle, and where possible a starting position with the rear wheel on clean tarmac. Traction control can catch a spin once it has started, but a smooth take-up avoids it in the first place, and smoothness depends on how finely the left hand can let the lever go. Setting the ESA090 so that the fingers rest on it slightly bent gives the most control over the first part of its travel. The long blade adds leverage, which makes a slow release easier to hold on a loaded 1290 Super Adventure.
Fitment and Compatibility
In Accossato's list this bike appears as the Super Adventure 1290 T, a name KTM only used from 2017, when the touring model took over from the original. What is meant is the first 1290 Super Adventure of 2015 and 2016, and those are the two model years this product covers. The ESA090 takes the place of the stock lever at the original clutch mounting. Together with the EDD001 brake lever for the same two years, it completes a matching pair.
Road Approval
Track use only: the ESA090 has no documented German ABE.
Scope of Delivery
The ESA090 arrives alone in an Accossato box: one clutch lever, its blade anodised in your colour and made in the length you selected.
