Most air filter copy picks its comparison carefully, holding a performance element up against something coarse and oiled. On a standard CB150R that is not the comparison that applies. The part you are taking out is Honda's pleated paper element, and paper is not a crude medium at all: it filters finely, it does so by trapping particles inside its structure, and it is perfectly good until the day it is thrown away. So the honest question about the Sprint Filter P14 SM219P14 is not whether it out-filters something nobody fitted, but what changes when a fine disposable element is replaced by a fine serviceable one. The answer is smaller than the usual sales pitch and rather more durable.
Key Features
- A compressor replaces the order form; the element is built to last the motorcycle’s life
- P14 specification: 14 microns of filtration at an airflow figure of 1,800 l/m²/sec
- Dry and unoiled, so there is nothing to wash out of it and nothing to carry downstream
- Filtering surface roughly double that of other performance elements
- It replaces the standard element directly, asking for no modification and no remap
- Washable, reusable, warranted two years from purchase
The comparison that actually applies
Sprint Filter publishes comparative retention figures for its woven media against four-layer oiled cotton. There is no published figure in that set for an OEM paper element, and inventing one to win an argument would be worth precisely nothing to you. What can be said plainly is this: on filtration alone, swapping a good paper element for a fine nonwoven is not the headline. The headline is that one of them has a service procedure and the other has an order form.
What stays constant
A paper element only travels in one direction. It closes up as it collects, the pressure drop across it climbs, and because that drop rises with airflow it is felt hardest exactly where a small single has nothing spare. Nothing brings it back. A dry nonwoven is regenerated instead: air from the clean side, water and mild detergent when it deserves it, and the restriction returns close to where it started rather than drifting further from it every month. The trade is real and worth stating — 14 microns holds back more than the P08's 80 microns and flows 1,800 l/m²/sec against 5,050, so finer is not better, it is different air it is made for. Nobody should expect a standard CB150R to feel faster for any of this.
Care and cleaning
Routine service: compressed air on the clean side, working outwards. Deeper service: lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinsed until the water runs clear. In both cases the element ends up in open air to dry — never with heat and never with a flame — and is refitted only once it is dry, with no oiling stage at either level. The Sprint Filter maintenance sheet sits in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Honda CB150R from 2018 to 2026. The same element covers four machines built around this airbox, the CB125R, CB150R, CB250R and CB300R, across the same years. The full list is in the Fitment tab.
