Five of the six machines on this part number are Superquadro superbikes. The sixth is the Scrambler 1100, which uses the air-cooled Desmodue and does its work in a part of the rev range the others treat as a warm-up. That is not a complaint about the engine. It is a description of the one condition in which a racing flow rating is spent, and of a motorcycle that does not go there. A fitment list can only tell you that the element seals in the housing; whether the medium suits the bike is a separate question, and on this one it is worth answering out loud.
Key Features
- A single dry layer of woven polyester, never oiled new and never oiled after cleaning
- 85 µm openings with a rated flow of 15,000 l/m²/sec, the racing end of the Sprint Filter range
- Comparison measurements give 95.22 % retention on 100-micron particles against 93.13 % for the P08
- Something near double the filtering surface of other performance filters, in the unaltered frame
- Slots into the standard airbox where the paper element sat, without modification or remapping
- Regenerated with an air line for as long as the bike is in use, with two years of guarantee from purchase
Three cloths, one airbox
Sprint Filter catalogues three media for the Scrambler 1100. A P14 non-woven at 14 µm and 1,800 l/m²/sec, drawn up for dust and long dry stages. The P08 weave at 80 µm and 5,050 l/m²/sec, which is the road and track standard. And the PM127S F1-85 here, at 85 µm and 15,000 l/m²/sec. Finer stops more and passes less; coarser does the reverse. It is a trade running in two directions, not a ladder with a best rung at the top.
Where this Scrambler sits on it
Nearer the dusty end than the racing one. An air-cooled twin that does its best work low and in the middle never holds the sort of sustained maximum demand which makes a flow rating visible, so the headroom bought here would go unused while the more open weave works every hour of every ride. The P08 is the honest recommendation for a Scrambler that lives on roads, and the P14 for one that is taken at its word and ridden on gravel. None of the three raises the output of a standard machine either: a filter in a series housing was never what held the engine back.
Care and cleaning
Take the element out and hold an air line to its clean face, blowing outward and working evenly rather than concentrating on one area, so the load exits by the surface it settled on. After a dusty summer, or a winter of road salt, hand-warm water with a mild washing-up detergent releases what the air left behind; rinse until the water coming off it is clean. Dry it in open air only, because polyester is destroyed by heat long before a hand would call it hot, and refit it dry, with no oil and no spray. Sprint Filter's maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Ducati Scrambler 1100 of 2018 to 2024, as a direct replacement in the series airbox. Six Ducatis are covered by this part number, and each appears with its own model years in the Fitment tab.
