Somebody stood in front of two Street Triples, compared what the R had against what the base bike had, and paid the difference for suspension and brakes that could be quantified. A filter is also sold on numbers, and they are easier to misread than damping clicks. Three of them belong to the Sprint Filter PM143S — ø 22 microns, 80 µm and 5,050 l/m²/sec — and they describe three entirely different things.

Key Features

Never oiled, and never in need of re-oiling: the medium is dry polyester

Rather than matted from pulp, the polyester threads of ø 22 microns are woven to a calibrated aperture

The P08 medium, specified for road and track use, filters at 80 µm and flows 5,050 l/m²/sec

Roughly double the filtering surface of other performance filters fits the standard airbox

It replaces the standard element directly, with no modification and no remap

Washable and reusable, built to last the life of the motorcycle; the warranty runs two years from the date of purchase

Thread, aperture, flow

The 22 microns are the diameter of the polyester thread itself, not the size of the hole — that mix-up is the most common misreading of a woven filter, and it makes the medium sound four times finer than it is. The 80 µm are the aperture the weave leaves between those threads. The 5,050 l/m²/sec are how much air a square metre of that fabric passes in a second, which is a property of the material rather than of your motorcycle, and it is also why the second figure worth having is the total surface folded into the airbox: roughly double that of other performance filters. None of the three is a power figure, and none of them should be sold to you as one.

Finer is not better, it is different

Sprint Filter build this same element in other media, and the numbers move together in one direction only. The P037 filters to 37 µm at 4,500 l/m²/sec, the P14 to 14 µm at 1,800, the T12 to 7 µm at 560. A finer weave holds back more and passes less, every time. That is a trade, not a ranking: a T12 is not a better filter than a P08, it is made for air a road bike rarely sees. For a Street Triple 675 R ridden on the road with the occasional track day, the P08 is the medium the bike was specified for.

Care and cleaning

For a bike that is only ridden in the dry, the whole service is compressed air on the clean side, blown outwards. Otherwise the element is washed in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinsed until the water runs clear and dried fully in open air — never with heat, never with a flame. It is refitted dry, and there is nothing to oil. Downloads is where the maintenance sheet lives.

Fitment & Compatibility

Made for the Triumph Street Triple 675 R, 2013–2016. The same PM143S element covers four machines built around this airbox — the Street Triple 675 and the Street Triple 675 R, the Daytona 675 and the Daytona 675 R.
