The CMX1100 shares its parallel twin with one of Honda’s adventure bikes, and that is the wrong place to start when ordering an air filter. The catalogue records one element for this machine and two for the CRF1100L, because the adventure bike carries a pair of airboxes and the Rebel does not. Same engine family, different intake hardware, different order. A filter reference follows the housing it fills, not the cylinder head above it: the specification sheet of an engine says nothing about the box the air arrives through. PM235S is the standard cloth for this one.
Key Features
- Single-layer woven polyester, run dry — no oil is used on it at any point
- 80 µm filtration at a rated 5,050 l/m²/sec, the road and track specification
- Threads from ø 22 microns; that describes the fibre, not the gap the weave leaves
- Around twice the working cloth area of a conventional performance element
- Fits the standard Rebel airbox unaltered — nothing cut, no adapter, no remap
- Washed and refitted rather than replaced, with two years of guarantee
One engine, two intake designs
Manufacturers reuse engines far more readily than they reuse bodywork, and the airbox belongs to the bodywork side of that line. Its position, its volume and the point it draws from are decided by the frame, the tank and the seat height of each model, so two machines built around the same twin can end up with quite different intake arrangements. For an owner the consequence is simple: order by the model and the year printed on the listing, never by the engine.
What a standard cloth is doing on a cruiser
Nothing here makes a standard CMX1100 stronger, and that claim is not being made. A cruiser is heavier than its output suggests and geared to match, which means wide throttle openings are ordinary rather than exceptional — pulling away in traffic, overtaking with a passenger and luggage aboard. Intake restriction on such a bike is not an occasional cost but a routine one, which is exactly why it is worth having a restriction that stays put. Cellulose starts at its lowest resistance and climbs from there until it is discarded; a washed weave returns to its own baseline. Sprint Filter measures its cloth at 93.13 % retention of 100-micron particles, against 76.42 % for four-layer oiled cotton, and does it with no oil that could reach a sensor.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air on the clean face, blowing outward, does most services on its own: the load leaves through the surface that caught it. Where more is wanted, wash PM235S in warm water with a mild dish soap and rinse until the water runs clear. No heat at any stage — no hairdryer, no exhaust, no flame — and it goes back into the airbox dry and untreated. Sprint Filter’s maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
PM235S is recorded against one machine: the Honda CMX1100 Rebel from 2021 to 2024. Smaller Rebels are listed separately with their own references, so check the model and the build year against the compatibility list on this page before ordering.
