Sprint Filter lists four separate cloths for the airbox of the 2021-on CBR600RR. Most housings in this catalogue get two, occasionally three. Read the four side by side and the P08 stops looking like the entry-level option and starts looking like the fixed point the other three depart from. Its label names two places, road and track, and on a 600 supersport that pairing is not a hedge. Plenty of these machines genuinely do spend Saturday on a circuit and Tuesday getting somebody to work, and whichever element is in the airbox has to be there on both days.
Key Features
- Single layer of woven polyester, run dry from new — Sprint Filter never oils this cloth
- Specified at 80 µm filtration and 5,050 l/m²/sec of flow, the material drawn for combined road and circuit duty
- Polyester thread beginning at ø 22 microns, with the opening set by how the cloth is woven rather than by pressed pulp
- Close to double the working surface of a conventional performance element
- Takes the factory paper panel's place in the untouched housing: nothing cut, no ducting altered, no remap
- Regenerated with air instead of bought again, and warranted by Sprint Filter for two years
Why the standard weave is the fixed point
The other three cloths in this housing are each named departures. The P14 sits at 14 µm and 1,800 l/m²/sec, the T12 at 7 µm and 560, the racing F1-85 at 85 µm and 15,000. Every step in either direction is a swap and not a promotion: a tighter material holds back more and passes less, a looser one does the reverse. Only the P08 was specified without a direction to serve — 80 µm at 5,050 is the setting that has to answer for a fast lap and a wet commute with the same piece of cloth.
One element, two kinds of day
That is a harder brief than it sounds, because the two days load the filter differently: one asks for sustained volume near the top of the range, the other asks for very little air but delivers a long, slow accumulation of road grit. What the P08 offers is not more power — a drop-in element cannot make a standard CBR600RR noticeably quicker, and any description that says otherwise has stopped describing a filter. What it offers is an intake restriction that starts low and stays close to where it started, on a part that is serviced rather than consumed.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air does almost all of it, directed at the clean face so the dirt leaves along the path it came in by. Where a season has left more behind than air will move, wash the SM262S in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and rinse until the water runs clear. Drying happens in moving air and at its own speed — no heat gun, no radiator, no flame, because polyester will not survive the shortcut. It goes back in dry and untreated. Sprint Filter's maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Cut for the airbox of the Honda CBR600RR built from 2021 to 2026. The catalogue lists this element for that one machine, and the Fitment tab carries the full entry.
