Key Features
- Powder-coated yellow
- Free length 260 mm
- Straight-wound, constant rate
- Inner diameter 70 mm
- Measured spring rate 85 N/mm
- 133 mm of usable stroke

How Öhlins Makes Them
Öhlins publishes recommended sag figures for its springs, so the setup has a reference rather than a feel. The finish is applied after setting, which means the coating does not affect the rate. Production has stayed in Sweden since the company was founded in 1976.
Dimensions
The 70 mm bore and 260 mm length are the two figures that decide whether it physically fits; 85 N/mm decides whether it suits the rider.
Choosing 85 N/mm
Firm rates trade some small-bump comfort for support — the right trade on a good surface at speed. A firm rate holds the chassis attitude when the front or rear is loaded hard. A firm rate keeps the fork high in its stroke under braking, which preserves the geometry when the front is loaded hard. A road machine spends most of its life in the first third of the fork's travel — that is the part the rate governs.
What the Rear Spring Decides
Rear spring rates run in the tens or hundreds of N/mm because the spring sits at the short end of that lever, not at the wheel. Öhlins supplies most of its shocks without a spring precisely so the rate can be matched to the rider rather than averaged. Two riders 20 kg apart on the same motorcycle genuinely need different rates, not different clicks.
Applications
A workshop will pick this spring from its dimensions and the rider's weight, not from a fitment table. Where Öhlins lists this size against a particular unit, the listing is a starting point rather than a boundary. The safest way to choose is by static sag: set the target figure, and the rate follows from whether you can reach it with preload.
What Fitting Involves
If the fork has not been serviced recently, bushes and seals are worth replacing while it is apart. Work on both legs in one session so the fork stays symmetrical. Rate and preload are separate adjustments: get the rate right first, then set sag with preload.
Road Approval
Road approval: no separate certificate. The spring changes the rate, not the construction of the fork, and is treated as a service part.
Fitting and Setup Service
This is not a part to rush. Öhlins recommends installation by an authorised service centre, and we are an authorised Öhlins service centre — fitting, servicing and setup all happen here. Get in touch if you would like the work done with the order.
