Manufacture and Tolerance
Öhlins manufactures in Upplands Väsby, north of Stockholm, and assembles and tests every unit there before it ships. Shafts are hardened and surface-treated so the seal has a consistent surface to run against. Machining, anodising, assembly and testing all happen in the same building rather than across a supply chain.

Where This Rate Belongs
This end of the range suits heavier riders, two-up use, or a machine ridden hard enough that fork dive becomes the limit. A firm rate holds the chassis attitude when the front or rear is loaded hard. Firm rates also suit machines carrying luggage as a matter of course. Road surfaces are the hardest test of a spring rate, because the fork has to cope with both a smooth stretch and a broken one.

Rear spring rates run in the tens or hundreds of N/mm because the spring sits at the short end of that lever, not at the wheel. Öhlins supplies most of its shocks without a spring precisely so the rate can be matched to the rider rather than averaged.

Öhlins builds springs to dimensions rather than to model lists, so the question is always the same: does the diameter fit, does the length fit, and is the rate right for the rider? Where Öhlins lists this size against a particular unit, the listing is a starting point rather than a boundary. A spring is one of the few suspension parts that is genuinely interchangeable: same bore, same free length, and it goes in.
Installation
Öhlins part numbers are stamped on the packaging rather than the spring, so keep the label with the setup notes. Once fitted, ride the machine before making damping changes: the new rate alters what the clicks do. Öhlins supplies a setting sheet with the springs; the numbers on it assume the specified oil.
Road Approval
Road approval: not applicable to the spring on its own. Öhlins issues approvals against complete suspension units, not individual springs.
