How Öhlins Makes Them
Anodising is hard-coat rather than decorative, which matters on a component exposed to road salt and stone chips. Öhlins manufactures in Upplands Väsby, north of Stockholm, and assembles and tests every unit there before it ships. Production has stayed in Sweden since the company was founded in 1976.

Where This Rate Belongs
Firm rates also suit machines carrying luggage as a matter of course. Firm rates trade some small-bump comfort for support — the right trade on a good surface at speed. A firm rate holds the chassis attitude when the front or rear is loaded hard. Road surfaces are the hardest test of a spring rate, because the fork has to cope with both a smooth stretch and a broken one.
Rate and the Linkage
Static sag at the rear sets the whole chassis attitude — get it wrong and the front geometry goes with it. Two riders 20 kg apart on the same motorcycle genuinely need different rates, not different clicks. Öhlins sells rear springs separately precisely because rider weight varies more than machine weight does.
Applications
Rather than a model list, use the measurements: a fork that accepts this diameter and length is a candidate, and the rate follows from rider weight. Öhlins lists no fixed model here — the spring is defined by its measurements, and any fork with matching dimensions can take it. Nothing about the installation changes across a rate range: the mounting, the length and the bore stay the same.
What Fitting Involves
Work on both legs in one session so the fork stays symmetrical. Once fitted, ride the machine before making damping changes: the new rate alters what the clicks do. A spring that is the correct length still needs the preload spacer checked, since installed length is what sets sag.
Road Approval
Road approval: none is issued for springs as such — they replace an existing component of the same function. Any model-specific approval is listed under Applications.
