DescriptionThe whole story▼
Öhlins part number 08790-05 is a pair of fork springs rated at 10.5 N/mm, 260 mm long with a 25.5 mm inner diameter. Too stiff and the front loses feel over bumps; too soft and it dives under the brakes. Rate sets that balance.

- Öhlins part number 08790-05

How Öhlins Makes Them
The unit is rebuildable: seals, shims and oil are catalogue items, not a reason to buy a new one. The Öhlins part number is stamped on the unit, so its specification can be looked up years later. Production is Öhlins' own in Sweden, and the tolerance on the rate is what separates these from a generic replacement.
Size and Rate
Dimensionally this is a 25.5 mm × 260 mm spring; within that envelope Öhlins offers a range of rates, and this one is 10.5 N/mm.
What This Rate Does
Support under braking improves; small-bump comfort gives a little back. A firm rate holds the chassis attitude when the front or rear is loaded hard. Firm rates trade some small-bump comfort for support — the right trade on a good surface at speed. Road surfaces are the hardest test of a spring rate, because the fork has to cope with both a smooth stretch and a broken one.
Applications
There is no model list for this size because the spring is a dimensional part: it fits whatever fork it physically fits. This spring is chosen by its dimensions rather than by motorcycle model: check inner diameter, free length and rate against the fork it is going into. If you are replacing a sagged original, measure its free length first — a tired spring often measures several millimetres short.
Installation
Öhlins states an air gap for this application, and that figure is part of the setting rather than a detail. If the fork has not been serviced recently, bushes and seals are worth replacing while it is apart. Öhlins supplies a setting sheet with the springs; the numbers on it assume the specified oil.
Road Approval
Road approval: a spring is a like-for-like replacement of a wear part and carries no separate type approval. Where Öhlins states an approval for a particular motorcycle, it is named under Applications.
Fitting and Setup Service
This is not a part to rush. Öhlins recommends installation by an authorised service centre, and we are an authorised Öhlins service centre — fitting, servicing and setup all happen here. Get in touch if you would like the work done with the order.
