DescriptionThe whole story▼
The 999 cc of a CBR 1000 RR-R SP is irrelevant the moment it leans past the side stand. Enter the WAPHO405: nylon outside for elasticity, Ergal inside for strength, 246 g on the scales. It is offered in 2 colours: Black, Red. The CBR 1000 RR-R SP runs 999 cc, and everything that mass does in a fall arrives at these points.
Key Features
- Protects the fork bottoms and swingarm ends of the CBR 1000 RR-R SP in a low-speed fall
- Coloured Ergal insert inside the WAPHO405 — light, strong, renewable on its own
- The WAPHO405 stands proud of the axle nut, which is the whole mechanism
- CNC-machined rather than cast, so the WAPHO405 mating faces stay true on the CBR 1000 RR-R SP
- At 246 g the WAPHO405 is the cheapest thing on the CBR 1000 RR-R SP to sacrifice
- The WAPHO405 costs less than the smallest part it defends on a CBR 1000 RR-R SP
- Nylon outer body on the WAPHO405: high elasticity, so it absorbs rather than shatters on a CBR 1000 RR-R SP
How Axle Protection Works
Protection here is a matter of millimetres — the slider has to reach past the axle nut. Splitting the job between two materials is what lets the WAPHO405 be both tough and light. After contact the nylon shows it and the Ergal underneath usually does not.
Materials and Construction
LighTech moulds the outer shell of the WAPHO405 in nylon because it gives before it breaks. The insert is Ergal: known for strength, chosen here for its weight. The design assumes the WAPHO405 will be used, and makes the used part the cheap one.
Scope of Delivery
What arrives is a full WAPHO405 set at 246 g, ready to go onto the CBR 1000 RR-R SP. Spare elements for the WAPHO405 are listed separately, which keeps a repair cheap on a CBR 1000 RR-R SP.
Fitment and Compatibility
This listing covers the Honda CBR 1000 RR-R SP only; sister models carry their own part numbers. Check the clearance to the surrounding bodywork once fitted and set it with the supplied spacers.
Fitting
Everything the CBR 1000 RR-R SP installation needs comes with the WAPHO405. Torque to the CBR 1000 RR-R SP workshop figures rather than to feel. Choose from 2 colours for the CBR 1000 RR-R SP: Black, Red. All share the same WAPHO405 geometry.
Type Approval
No approval documentation is included with the WAPHO405. Whether the fitted position is acceptable on a road-registered CBR 1000 RR-R SP is the inspector's call, not ours. If the CBR 1000 RR-R SP is used on track only, none of this applies.
