A Dedicated Profile
The P designation identifies a body shaped for the Panigale's cockpit rather than for Ducati's range in general. Behind this fairing the difference is visible in how the cables leave the assembly.
Stroke, Not Bore
Ducati found the 1299's extra capacity by lengthening the stroke to 60.8 millimetres and leaving the bore alone. Widening it further was not possible; the 1199 had already gone as far as physics allowed.
A Pit Limiter on a Road Bike
The 1299 carries a proper pit-lane speed limiter as standard equipment. It is a track feature Ducati included without being asked, and it says everything about who the motorcycle was drawn for.
The Housing Alone
The switch block is untouched by this part. It replaces the throttle assembly, which suits an owner whose electrics are healthy and who wants machined metal at the grip.
Precision Where It Counts
A machined bore keeps the tube turning cleanly and the sensor reading faithfully. On a 205 horsepower twin, the first fifteen degrees of throttle are where the entire conversation happens.
Black Anodised
Converted into the aluminium rather than sprayed over it. There is no coating to lift from an edge after a decade of gloves and sunlight.
Ergal 7075
Roughly double the yield strength of ordinary machined aluminium, which on a clamped bar component is what determines whether it stays where it was fitted.
Ducati's Last Twin Flagship
After the 1299 came the V4 and the era that began with the 851 ended. That has kept these motorcycles interesting in a way that few three-year-old superbikes manage.
A Hundred and Sixty-Six Kilograms
Dry, with 205 horsepower. The power-to-weight figure was extraordinary in 2015 and it is still ahead of a great many current superbikes.
