Shaped for the Panigale
The P profile is drawn around the superbike's clip-on position and cable routing rather than around Ducati's wider range. In the space behind an 1199 fairing that specificity produces a visibly cleaner installation.
Sixteen Thousand Euro of Engine
Titanium connecting rods, a lightened crankshaft, two-ring pistons and revised valve gear. The R's engine is a homologation special that Ducati sold at a price reflecting exactly that.
Adjustable Swingarm Pivot
The R lets the pivot height be changed, which alters how the chassis reacts to drive. It is a racing adjustment on a road motorcycle and almost nobody outside a paddock ever uses it.
Housing, Not Switch
This part covers the throttle assembly alone and leaves the switch block untouched. On an R it is one of the last moulded components anywhere near the rider.
Where the Sensor Reads
The bore is machined rather than formed, which keeps the tube concentric. On an engine calibrated as precisely as the R's, that consistency is felt at the small openings that decide a corner exit.
Black Anodising
Converted into the metal. Against carbon panels and a great deal of exposed titanium fastening, black is the finish that recedes properly.
Aerospace Alloy
Ergal 7075 at roughly double the strength of ordinary machined aluminium. It costs more to cut and it holds a clamping face indefinitely.
Twelve Thousand Revs From a Twin
The R's ceiling was higher than most inline fours of its generation, which is what the extreme bore was for. It is also why the engine needed titanium to survive it.
Built for Superbike
Ducati produced the R because World Superbike rules demanded a road version. Everything unusual about it exists for a competition reason rather than a marketing one, which is increasingly rare.
