Shaped for the Handlebar
The M version is cut around a one-piece bar rather than clip-ons, which changes the cable exit angle completely. It is the correct choice on any Monster.
A Hundred and Sixty Horsepower
The most powerful Monster Ducati ever built, aimed squarely at the hyper-naked class. It came with raised ride height, Öhlins at both ends and carbon panels.
A High-Level Exhaust
The R's two-into-one-into-two system exits under the tail and changes the entire silhouette. It is the detail that identifies an R across a car park.
Just the Housing
This part leaves the switch block alone. It replaces the throttle assembly, which is the sensible purchase when the switchgear works properly.
The Machined Bore
The tube runs in a bore that is cut rather than formed, which keeps the grip's rotation clean and the sensor reading faithful for years.
Black Anodising
Converted into the metal. Against carbon panels and gold suspension it neither competes nor disappears awkwardly.
Aerospace Alloy
Ergal 7075, roughly twice the yield strength of ordinary machined aluminium. On a naked bike the material is chosen for the low-speed fall that eventually happens.
A Short Run
Ducati built the 1200 R for only a few seasons before replacing the whole 1200 range. That has kept them interesting and kept their owners attentive.
Raised, Not Lowered
Ducati increased the ride height on the R rather than following the market toward lower seats. It sharpened the geometry and made the bike considerably more willing to turn.
Against the Hyper-Nakeds
Ducati aimed the R at the Super Duke and the Tuono rather than at the rest of its own range, which meant matching them on power and beating them on weight. It never quite outsold either of them, and it remains the only Monster that was genuinely built to fight in that class rather than to keep the family name in the price list.
