The JP ES 004 takes the place of the RS 660's rear light in the circuit so the panel stays quiet with the tail unit gone.

Bulb Failure Monitoring
The controller measures current through the rear lighting circuit. An absent assembly reads as a blown lamp and the warning stays until it is answered.
A Race Tail
Lighter, simpler and shaped for a seat pad rather than a passenger. Fitting one means the standard rear light and its bracket leave together.
Presenting the Load
The eliminator provides what the circuit expects rather than leaving it open. That is why nothing appears and nothing is stored.
Two Hundred and Seventy Degrees
The crank spacing gives the twin an uneven beat and better traction feel. It is the reason the RS 660 sounds and drives unlike its rivals.
Ride by Wire
Electronic throttle with five ride modes, three of them configurable. The fuelling is software, which is unusual on a middleweight even now.
One-Make Racing
Aprilia supports dedicated RS 660 series in several countries, so a supply of properly prepared bikes exists and the parts to prepare them are well proven.
Minutes, Not Hours
Aprilia's own connector with nothing to adapt or splice. The job is done while the tail unit is already off.
Nothing Cut
The loom is left exactly as it came from the factory, which matters on a bike that will go back to the road eventually.
Reversible
The standard light refits with the standard tail unit at any point.

The RS 660 is quick because of what it weighs rather than what it makes, which is a distinction that only becomes obvious on a circuit. Riders of ordinary ability set lap times on one that a considerably more powerful machine would not deliver.
