Drawn, Not Specified
Massimo Tamburini designed the F4 down to its mirrors and instruments, and the Guggenheim has exhibited one as industrial design. The switch housing is among the very few components that were selected from a catalogue rather than drawn as part of the motorcycle.
Radial Valves
The four-cylinder engine arranges its valves radially rather than conventionally, an idea developed while Cagiva's relationships reached into Ferrari's engineering. It is complicated and expensive and it produces a noise that owners consider adequate justification for both.
Space Behind the Fairing
Tamburini shaped the bodywork for airflow rather than for access, and there is very little room around the clip-ons. A compact machined body takes less of that space than a two-piece assembly with a cover clipped over it.
What the Left Hand Does
Indicators, horn, beam and the instrument navigation. On an F4 of this generation the electronics are simpler than on a modern superbike, which means larger buttons with more space between them and a cluster that ages more gracefully.
Ten Model Years
The fitment spans 2011 to 2015. MV revised the F4's specification more than once in that period without altering the handlebar architecture, which is why one component covers the whole run.
Three Anodised Finishes
Black, red and titanium, converted into the surface rather than laid on top. On a red and silver F4 the red option continues the livery; on a black one it would be the only colour in the cockpit.
Sealed and Milled
One block of Ergal 7075 with sealed elements inside. There is no clipped joint anywhere, which matters for the buttons that would otherwise sit across it and for keeping water away from the contacts underneath.
