A Superbike Engine, Retuned
Suzuki took the 2005 GSX-R1000 unit, changed the cams and mapped it for the road. The result has more midrange than anything in its class.
Where a Wideband Sensor Comes In
The standard oxygen sensor only reports whether the mixture is near stoichiometric. Anybody mapping seriously needs a wideband, because otherwise the numbers being entered are guesses.
Sharing Maps
Owners of identical motorcycles with identical exhausts trade map files. It is a reasonable starting point and a terrible finishing point, because no two engines are identical.

Specialists work with these units regularly. The cost of a session is a fraction of the motorcycle's value and the result is a map somebody stands behind.
Zero Means Standard
Every cell starts at nought and the motorcycle behaves exactly as the factory intended. There is no default map to undo and nothing to be surprised by on the first ride.
Not for a Standard Bike
The manufacturer names racing modifications as the reason this exists. On an unmodified motorcycle with the factory exhaust there is very little for a map to correct.
On a Track Bike
The clearest case. No catalyst, a full system, a known fuel and a rider who visits every part of the map. That is what this unit was drawn for.
Disabling Nothing
The unit does not switch anything off. It works alongside the standard strategies rather than around them, which is why the fault memory stays clean.
The Sale Afterwards
A motorcycle offered with this unit should come with its map file and a note of the configuration it was written for. Without those the next owner inherits a blank sheet and a bill.
