Nine Kilograms of Torque
Triumph quoted a substantial increase over the 675 at every engine speed, which is what the extra capacity bought and why the 765 feels different.
Plastic at Head Temperature
The housing endures the widest thermal swing on the motorcycle. Reeds crack with age rather than mileage and a cracked reed passes gas the wrong way.
Epoxy Is Worse
It cures hard, cracks with thermal movement and then has to be chiselled off a cylinder head. Several owners have learnt this the expensive way.
Refit for a Test
Where periodic inspection covers the equipment, the standard housing goes back on in twenty minutes with nothing needing replacement.
Why the Housing Fails
It is a moulding bolted directly to a cylinder head, which means it lives through the widest temperature range on the motorcycle several times a day. The reeds inside flex on every closed throttle, and after enough cycles one cracks. Mileage has very little to do with it.
On a Naked Triumph
The top of the engine is part of what the motorcycle looks like, and a milled cover reads as deliberate where a capped hose reads as unfinished. It is a small thing and owners of naked bikes notice it.
Keep the Housing
It goes back in twenty minutes with no new seals required, and having it is what turns an emissions inspection or a suspicious buyer into a straightforward evening rather than a problem.

Turned from billet with the groove cut in the same operation, which is why it seals on a ring alone rather than needing compound.
