Where it earns its keep
A race day is the obvious case: hours on a grass bank, often after overnight rain. The same blanket works on a beach, where the coated base keeps sand out of the fleece, and in the back of a van as something to kneel on.
Care
Shake it out rather than washing it after every use — polar fleece pills when it is washed often. When it does need a wash, cold and gentle, and let it dry flat before rolling it back up.
