DescriptionThe whole story▼
Checking the engine oil on a Monster 796 is a small job with a small trap. Most handbooks ask for the bike to be upright for an accurate reading, and the Monster 796 has no centre stand, so the rider holds it level with one hand on the bars while bending down to look. Lean a little too far and the bike gets away, and if it tips to the right, the front brake lever lands first. For the Monster 796 of 2010 to 2015, with and without ABS, Accossato lists the AGD149, a silver replacement brake lever in the original form.

Construction and Material Quality
The AGD149 is an original spare parts type: it follows the pattern of the lever Ducati fitted to the Monster 796 and leaves the classic outline of the bike undisturbed. Accossato developed it to be good value and explains that its manufacturing process gives the lever greater resistance after damage or a fall. The colour is silver, as listed for this bike. Accossato, based today in Villastellone near Turin, publishes no other technical information about this lever.
An Oil Check Without a Fall
There are safer ways to do it. The simplest is a second person who holds the Monster 796 upright while you read the level. On your own, a front wheel chock holds the bike upright and leaves both hands free. Without either, keep both hands on the bike, set your feet apart and bend your knees to look, rather than leaning over with one arm stretched out. Do the check on level ground, with the engine warm and switched off for the time the handbook states. If the bike does get away from you, lift it with your legs, check for leaks and inspect the right-hand side. Fit the replacement brake lever with a cleaned, lightly greased pivot and make sure it moves freely. Before riding, check with the bike stationary that the brake light comes on as soon as you pull the lever and that the pressure point is firm.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the AGD149 for the Monster 796 from 2010 to 2015, both with and without ABS, and it is the only replacement brake lever named for the bike. The matching clutch lever is the silver AGS282 for the same years. At Inter-Pace the AGD149 is also listed for two KTM models, the 690 Duke and the 690 Enduro R. Accossato's CNC levers EDB012 and LV011 for the brake, and ESD022 and LV010 for the clutch, are the alternatives for a tuning build on the Monster 796.
Road Approval
No approval documents for the AGD149 have been made available to us, so there is no German ABE or test mark. We list the lever for racing and competition.
