DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Monster 797 was built as the way into Ducati's naked range: an air-cooled twin, a manageable seat height and a light, friendly feel that make it a natural first Ducati. In town it is used for everything, including a manoeuvre that catches out many newer riders: climbing a kerb into a driveway or onto a parking area. Take the kerb at a shallow angle and the front tyre skids along its edge instead of climbing, the bars snap round and the bike drops. For the Monster 797 of 2017 to 2020, Accossato lists the PF049 front axle sliders.
Key Features
- Front axle sliders for the Ducati Monster 797, 2017 to 2020
- Accossato PF049, one pair
- Aluminium and plastic, black
- Spacers, screws and all mounting parts included, Accossato says
- Also listed for the Monster 797 Plus of 2017 to 2019
- Intended to take the first contact at the front
- No German ABE on record; for track and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato's front fork protection for the Monster 797 carries the code PF049 and consists of two black protectors, made of aluminium and plastic, one for each side. The kit, as Accossato describes it, contains the spacers and screws and every other item needed for mounting. The sliders are meant as the bike's landing points at the front: if the Monster 797 goes over, they should make contact before the fork, which can limit the damage there. They collect the scrapes themselves, and once one is badly worn or bent it is simply renewed. Accossato, which began in 1969 in Moncalieri near Turin, makes them for a range of Ducati models.
Kerbs, Driveways and a Shallow Angle
A kerb is only a problem when it is taken at the wrong angle or the wrong speed. Approached nearly square, at a slow walking pace and with a little throttle, a low kerb is climbed easily by the front wheel and the rear follows. Approached at a shallow angle, the tyre slides along the edge, the steering is pushed aside and the bike falls before a foot can go down. So plan the line: swing wide first, then turn so that the front wheel meets the kerb as close to straight on as you can manage. Keep the bike upright, your eyes on where you want to stop, and stay off the front brake while the wheel is climbing. High kerbs are better avoided altogether, and a wet or mossy one is slippery even at the right angle. If there is a dropped section for cars nearby, use it. On the Monster 797, which is light and easy to push, it is often simplest to switch off, dismount and walk the bike across.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato gives the PF049 for the Monster 797 from 2017 to 2020 and, in a separate row, for the Monster 797 Plus from 2017 to 2019; we have linked it to the Monster 797 for 2017 to 2020. The only other Accossato protection part on the list for this bike is the TP090 crash pad set, given for 2017 and 2018. In our shop the PF049 is also linked to the Monster 821 and the Monster 1200. After fitting, make sure the front wheel of your Monster 797 turns freely and that nothing rubs when you move the bars from lock to lock.
Road Approval
The PF049 has no German ABE or test mark that we could hand on, so it is intended for racing and competition.
