DescriptionThe whole story▼
Sand changes how a motorcycle stops. On a Honda CRF450RX, the cross-country version of Honda's 450 motocross bike, a beach race or a sandy forest loop asks for a light touch on the front brake, because a front tyre that brakes hard in soft sand digs in and tucks. Accossato's B8207 is a folding brake lever for the CRF450RX of 2017 to 2020, machined in Italy from Ergal 7075. Its blade is attached to the base by a joint and can fold forward when the bike goes down in the sand.
Key Features
- Folding front brake lever for the Honda CRF450RX, model years 2017 to 2020
- Takes the place of the original lever on the stock master cylinder
- Anti-break joint can let the blade fold forward instead of snapping
- Short blade for three fingers
- Solid Ergal 7075 aluminium alloy, CNC-machined in Italy
- Dark base, blade in black or red
- No German ABE documented; for off-road competition
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato keeps its off-road brake lever short and sizes it for three fingers, and the B8207 follows that rule. Its two parts, a dark base on the master cylinder pivot and a black or red blade, are CNC-machined in Italy from a solid block of Ergal 7075. That high-strength aluminium alloy lets the company pursue the three qualities it names for these levers: strength, low weight and reliability. The joint that connects base and blade is what turns a conventional lever into a folding one.
Braking in Soft Sand
In deep sand, the front wheel wants to dig. Brake hard with the front and the tyre ploughs a furrow, the steering goes heavy and the bike tucks under you. Riders who are quick in sand on a CRF450RX do most of their slowing with the engine and the rear brake, sit back, keep the front wheel light with a little throttle and use the front lever only gently and early. The approach to a sandy turn is planned several bike lengths in advance, because there is no room for a late correction.
Falls in sand are frequent and usually soft, yet levers still break in them. The sand hides stones, and a lever that digs in as the bike slides can be wrenched at its pivot. The joint on the B8207 gives the blade the option of swinging forward instead of breaking, which leaves a fair chance of carrying on with a working front brake. A fall can still damage it, so check the lever and rinse the sand out of the joint once you are back in the paddock. Abrasive grit left in a pivot does no part any good.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the B8207 for the Honda CRF450RX from 2017 to 2020, where it replaces the original front brake lever on the stock master cylinder. The C7210 folding clutch lever covers the same span. Both are made with a black or a red blade, so the two sides can be matched.
Road Approval
There is no documented German ABE for the B8207. We offer it for off-road competition and closed courses, which is what the CRF450RX is built for.
