Sprint Filter files the T12 under extreme conditions, and it pays to be exact about which extreme is meant. Seven microns is a statement about solids: dust, sand, the mineral fines that hang in the air minutes after the rider ahead has disappeared. It says nothing whatever about water. The range does hold a water-repellent medium, the P037, and it is not one of the two catalogued for the Rally 300 — so a wet crossing stays what it always was, a question of where the intake sits and how far you push your luck, and no filter element settles it.
Key Features
- Dry polyester special nonwoven at 7 microns, the finest medium in the Sprint Filter range
- Rated at 560 l/m²/sec, against 5,050 for the woven element listed for the same airbox
- Stores what it catches within the depth of the material rather than on its outer surface
- Dry throughout: no dressing to apply in a workshop and none to reapply beside a tent
- Sits in the standard airbox in place of the series element, with no modification and no remap
- Cleaned and reused for as long as the machine lasts, with two years of cover from purchase
The extreme this medium is drawn for
Riding in a dust cloud is not a matter of one bad hour; it is a rate that keeps running as long as the wheel ahead is turning, and on a small rally machine much of that time is spent at low speed with the engine working hard. That is the case the T12 was made for, and it answers it with construction rather than a tighter weave — a mat that takes particles into its thickness instead of blocking at the face. It is the wrong element for a bike that spends its life on tarmac, and it does not pretend otherwise: 560 against 5,050 is the price of the protection, and a 300 single gains no power from PM259T12 or from any other filter that drops into a series box.
The interval comes with the specification
Half of what you buy here is the medium; the other half is how often you are prepared to open the airbox. Air that justifies 7 microns loads any element quickly, and a fine one gives up its flow sooner as it fills, so the sensible reading is that this element wants looking at after hard days rather than after a set number of kilometres. What makes that bearable is the thing that sounds like a slogan and is not: a cleaning costs air and time and nothing else. There is no part to order and nothing left over, so the check that the schedule asks for actually gets done.
Care and cleaning
Blow it out with compressed air from the clean side outward, so that the load leaves by the face it entered through. When air can no longer shift it, lukewarm water with a mild washing-up liquid will, followed by rinsing until the run-off is clear. It must dry right through in moving air — heat sources and flames are what destroy these mats — and it goes back in dry and bare. The service sheet for this element sits in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
