Three products in this catalogue put the same 85 µm racing cloth in front of a Panigale 959, and the cloth is the one thing they do not differ in. The plainest of them is an ordinary element and the cheapest by a distance. This assembly asks around three quarters more than that one. The WorldSBK build asks exactly a fifth more again, and what separates it from this one is its carbon fibre frame, which this build does not have. Set out that way the ladder is not a ladder of filtration at all: the air meets identical polyester on every rung.
Key Features
- 85 µm F1-85 weave rated at 15,000 l/m²/sec — the most open medium in the range
- Polyester threads from ø 22 microns across; that is a fibre size, not an opening size
- Dry from new and dry after every clean, with no oil at any point in its life
- A race build, though without the carbon fibre frame of the WorldSBK part number
- Replaces the paper panel in the standard airbox; no cutting and no remapping
- Two-year warranty on a filter designed to see out the motorcycle
Paying for construction, not for filtration
Once the medium is held constant the remaining variables are how it is carried, how well it seals after twenty removals and how much handling the frame will take. Those are real differences and they are what the steps in this ladder buy. They also matter in proportion to how often the airbox is opened, which is why a race assembly is a sound purchase for somebody servicing a bike between sessions and an expensive one for somebody who reads the manual once a year. None of the three rungs makes a standard 959 measurably faster.
Where this rung sits
Against the ordinary 80 µm panel for the same housing, R127S F1-85-AVIO is roughly four times the outlay, so nobody should arrive here by accident. The case for it is a 959 ridden hard and stripped often, where the parts of an assembly that get handled are worth more than they look. The case against it is every other 959, and it is a strong case: the standard element is dry, oil-free and washable too, and it filters this airbox on the same principles as the cloth above it.
Care and cleaning
Everything the weave catches is meant to come back out the way it went in, so put the air line on the clean face and blow outward across it, never the other way about. When air alone stops being enough, hand-warm water and a mild detergent will lift what is left, and the rinse continues until the run-off is clear. Then the element dries in ambient air and takes as long as it takes, well away from anything warm, since heat is what finishes a polyester weave early. Fit it dry and untreated. The Downloads tab carries the sheet.
Fitment & Compatibility
Listed for the airbox of the Ducati Panigale 959 under model years 2012 to 2019, a window drawn by the parts catalogue rather than by a build record. Six Ducatis share the assembly in all: this machine, the 899, the 1199, the 1299 and the pair of 955 cc V2s.
