Fifteen thousand litres per square metre per second is the largest figure Sprint Filter prints, and it is easy to read it as a statement about an engine. It is not one. It belongs to a square metre of cloth on a test rig. How many square metres are folded into the Svartpilen's airbox has never been published, and neither has what the standard 125 draws through them, so the number compares one material with another exactly and compares nothing at all with your motorcycle.
Key Features
- Sprint Filter's racing weave: dry polyester at 85 microns, rated 15,000 l/m²/sec
- Flow is quoted per square metre of medium — a property of the cloth, not of an installation
- Never oiled, so there is no film to thin, re-apply or carry towards a sensor
- Around twice the filtering surface of other performance filters
- Fits the 2024-on airbox in place of the original panel, with no remapping
- Washed and reused instead of replaced; two years of warranty from purchase
What the figure is a property of
Bench figures for filter media are quoted per unit of area precisely so that different cloths can be set against each other under one condition. That makes them excellent for the question they answer and useless for a question they were never asked. Multiply the rate by an unknown area and you have an unknown; compare it with the standard weave's 5,050 litres per square metre per second and you have something solid, namely that this material passes roughly three times as much for a given area of it.
Where that leaves a road-registered 125
Three media are catalogued for this housing. The racing weave here at 85 microns, the standard cloth at 80 microns and 5,050, and a fine nonwoven at 14 microns and 1,800 for dusty work. Note the direction: the racing weave has the widest opening of the three, so it holds back the least. It is drawn for engines that can convert rate into work, and a 125 is not that engine on any road. Nor does any element in a standard airbox add output — on an A1 machine the ceiling is set by the licence category, not by the panel. What every one of the three honestly gives is a restriction that begins low and is restored by washing.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air is the tool, the clean face is the starting point, and outward is the direction: the load then leaves by the surface that stopped it. When the weave holds more than air will move, wash the PM293S F1-85 in hand-warm water with a little mild detergent and rinse until the water carries nothing away. Drying is done in open air and only there, with no heater, no hot-air gun and no flame involved at any stage, and the element goes back dry and untreated. Sprint Filter's illustrated sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
For the Husqvarna Svartpilen 125 built from 2024 to 2026. Seven entries in the current Husqvarna and KTM single-cylinder range share this element, each listed with its years in the Fitment tab. Machines from the earlier run, built up to 2023, take a different Sprint Filter code.
