A racing filter arrives with homework attached. Fitting the PM227S F1-85 to a CFMOTO CL-X 300 means accepting an 85 micron opening instead of the road weave's 80, and what makes that safe in competition is not the cloth itself — it is how often somebody looks at it. An element serviced between sessions never gets anywhere near the state in which five microns of extra opening would matter. One left alone through a season of road riding, with the airbox unopened, is a different proposition, and no figure printed on the packaging makes up for it.
Key Features
- A rated 15,000 l/m²/sec — the fastest-flowing medium Sprint Filter publishes
- 85 microns of filtration, a deliberate step wider than the road medium
- Dry cloth, so a compressor is all the servicing equipment needed; no oil, ever
- Roughly double the filter area of the elements it is usually compared against
- Enters the standard CL-X 300 airbox unmodified, with the mapping left alone
- Two years of warranty, and an element built to outlast any service interval
The routine that comes with the cloth
Set the rhythm before the first ride rather than after it. This medium wants to come out and be cleaned after any dusty run, and to be inspected far more often than a road panel would be: held up to a light, checked around the frame where it beds against the housing, blown through and put straight back. None of that is difficult, and the compressor does most of it. It is a commitment all the same, and a rider who knows the airbox will stay shut for a year is better served by the standard element in the same box, which filters finer and asks for less.
Paying for a flow rate
The gap between the two elements for this housing is close to three times, and what sits inside that gap is a rated flow figure and a slightly wider opening. Fitment, the dry principle, the cleaning routine and the warranty are common to both. A flow rating turns into a benefit only where an engine spends real time drawing everything the intake can deliver, which on a road-registered 300 is a very small share of any year — and it never turns into power by itself, since a drop-in filter does not make a standard CL-X 300 noticeably stronger whichever cloth is in the box.
Care and cleaning
Air, water, patience, in that order. The compressor does most of the work: clean side, outward, across the whole panel. Water is for what remains — lukewarm, a small amount of mild detergent, then a full rinse. The PM227S F1-85 is then left in open air until it is dry through, never near a heater or an open flame, and refitted with nothing applied to it. On a machine used the way this medium expects, that sequence comes round often, and it never needs a consumable. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the CFMOTO CL-X 300 of 2023 to 2026, one element per machine. This code covers three CFMOTO models; confirm your model year against the compatibility list before ordering.
