A four-stroke triple draws air three times for every two turns of the crankshaft, at even intervals, and on the 675 that cadence never lets up in the part of the rev range the bike was built for. There is no long pause in the intake tract for anything to settle back; the next cylinder is already asking. That is the demand an airbox and its element are specified against — the peak of each individual intake event, not the average the engine swallows over a minute. The Sprint Filter PM143S answers it with a single layer of dry woven polyester, 80 µm filtration at 5,050 l/m²/sec, dropped straight into the standard airbox.
Key Features
- Woven from polyester threads of ø 22 microns to a calibrated aperture, not pressed from pulp
- P08, the standard road and track medium: filtration 80 µm, flow 5,050 l/m²/sec
- The medium is dry and never oiled, so nothing migrates downstream onto the sensor or the throttle bodies
- Roughly double the filtering surface of other performance filters, in an unmodified airbox
- A direct replacement: nothing modified, nothing remapped, the fuelling exactly as it was
- Washable and reusable, designed to last the life of the motorcycle, with two years of warranty from the date of purchase
Three intake events for every two turns of the crank
An engine does not take its air in a steady stream, it takes it in gulps, and the size of a single gulp is what anything sitting in front of the airbox has to answer for. A triple spaces those gulps evenly and closely together, which is why the intake side of a 675 repays a thought that a lazier engine would not. None of that means a drop-in element makes a standard motorcycle noticeably more powerful. It does not, and it cannot: a filter is only ever able to give back the restriction it causes itself. What it can do is start low and stay there for as long as the element is in the bike.
Behind the fairing
Reaching the airbox on a fully faired supersport is not a two-minute job. Panels come off, fasteners get counted, and nobody does it more often than they have to. That is the practical argument for a part that finishes the job while you are already in there: the element comes out, goes over the air line, and is back in the box the same afternoon. Nothing to order in, and no second appointment.
Care and cleaning
With the fairing already off, the PM143S is dealt with on the spot: compressed air from the clean side, worked outwards, so that what it caught leaves the way it came in. Where the air line falls short, a wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent takes over, rinsed until the water runs clear. It then dries fully in open air, never with heat and never with a flame, and is refitted dry. No stage calls for oil. For the maintenance sheet, see the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Triumph Daytona 675, 2013–2016. The same PM143S element covers four machines built around this airbox — the Daytona 675 and the Daytona 675 R, the Street Triple 675 and the Street Triple 675 R. The full list with model years is in the Fitment tab.
