Three Colours to Choose
Black, red and titanium, all grown into the metal rather than applied over it. Owners of these motorcycles tend to personalise them and this part number reflects that.
One Assembly
The switches are inside the throttle housing and Ducati offers no smaller repair. On a touring bike whose controls are worked constantly in bad weather, that is worth knowing in advance.
Panniers Included
Ducati fitted semi-rigid bags as standard rather than listing them as accessories. It made the Hyperstrada a usable proposition straight out of the showroom.
Salt, Over Seasons
A bike used for real journeys meets winter roads. Salt sits in a moulded joint and attacks a terminal from the inside across several years rather than in one wet week.
Holding an Opening
Distance riding means keeping the throttle in one place rather than moving it constantly. A bore that has stayed true makes that stable and the hand considerably fresher at the end.
A Twelve-Volt Socket
Ducati fitted power outlets and a centre stand mounting alongside the bags. It was a serious attempt at a touring supermoto rather than a badge exercise.
Cut From Ergal 7075
Roughly twice the strength of ordinary machined aluminium. A loaded motorcycle puts real force through the handlebar when it eventually goes over on a campsite.
Dropped Quietly
Ducati stopped building the Hyperstrada after the 939 and never replaced it. The people who bought one keep it, which has made used examples surprisingly hard to find.
Nothing Cut
The unit uses Ducati's own connector. On a bike ridden a long way from a workshop, an installation with no splices in it is the one still working at the end of the trip.
