Specification Above the Base F4
Titanium connecting rods, a lightened crankshaft, higher compression, Öhlins front and rear and, on later examples, electronically adjustable damping. The RR is what MV built when the accountants were persuaded to look elsewhere.
Shaped for the F4 Chassis
This housing is profiled for the F4's clip-on geometry rather than for MV's range in general. Behind a fairing drawn primarily for aerodynamics, that fit produces a cleaner cable run than a universal body allows.
Two Hundred and One Horsepower
Delivered peakily by modern standards, which makes the relationship between wrist and throttle bodies more important rather than less. Precision at small openings is where a machined bore earns its cost on this engine.
A Shorter Cam
Reducing the rotation between closed and fully open suits an engine that rewards being kept in its upper range. It is among the least intrusive ways to change how an F4 responds.
Cables Retained
Mechanical conversion throughout. Nothing electrical is touched and the standard housing refits at any point, which on a motorcycle that has stopped depreciating matters more than it would elsewhere.
Ohlins and Machined Aluminium
An RR's cockpit already contains gold-anodised fork tops and a carbon front mudguard on some examples. A milled aluminium housing belongs in that company; a casting with a plastic cover does not.
Electronic Damping, Mechanical Throttle
Later RRs adjust their Öhlins damping from the dashboard while the throttle remains entirely cable-operated. That contrast is worth noting: the one control the rider uses most is the least electronically mediated thing on the motorcycle.
