The Monster Grows Up
Ducati replaced the air-cooled 1100 with the 1198 cc Testastretta in 2014, taking the model from 100 to 135 horsepower. It was the largest single step the Monster had ever taken.
No Logo
This version leaves the face plain. Owners who want the cockpit improved without the part announcing its origin choose it over the marked alternative.
Eleven Degrees of Overlap
The reduced valve overlap is what made a superbike-derived engine tolerable in traffic. Without it the Monster 1200 would have been undriveable below three thousand revs.
Housing Only
The switch block is untouched. This part replaces the throttle assembly, which is the appropriate choice when the switchgear works.
Where a Bore Matters
Machined rather than moulded, which keeps the tube concentric across years of daily use. Ride-by-wire means the engine sees that consistency too.
Black Anodising
Converted into the surface. A Monster's handlebar is fully exposed and unusually visible, which is where a coated finish shows its age first.
Ergal 7075
An aerospace grade at roughly twice the yield strength of ordinary machined alloy. On a naked motorcycle it is chosen for the low-speed drop as much as the finish.
An Adjustable Seat
Ducati offered several heights and made the tail unit reconfigurable. It is one of the reasons the 1200 kept such a broad range of owners.
Twenty-One Years In
By 2014 the Monster had been in production since 1993 and had outsold everything else Ducati built. Moving it to liquid cooling was a considerable risk and the sales figures settled it.
Thirty-Five More Horsepower
Going from the air-cooled 1100 to the liquid-cooled 1198 was the single largest jump in the model's history, and Ducati managed it while keeping the bike recognisable. The trellis stayed, the silhouette stayed, and underneath it the Monster became a genuinely fast motorcycle for the first time since the original 900 arrived.
